Focusing on people when the business is under pressure. In my experience, when a business is under severe pressure tends to be the time when leaders at all levels, because of the cascade effect, become increasingly focused on task and less on people. The irony here is that this is precisely the time when continuing to invest in people is even more of an enabler for getting the tasks done. Leadership’s role in building and maintaining organisational health is critical, especially with role modelling the right behaviours, as this short article explains. Alumni #leadership

I had the pleasure of spending a day in Edinburgh with Dr Susan Hetrick, Psychologist and author of ‘Toxic Organizational Cultures and Leadership’ delving into the intricacies of organisational culture. Our discussions focussed on the pivotal role that leaders play in cultivating and maintaining a positive organisational culture, and the far-reaching and sometimes devastating impacts when dysfunctional behaviour is left unchallenged. We shared our experiences and insights into how destructive leaders who demonstrate the dark triad personality traits can thrive where there is a conducive environment and susceptible followers, and the four stages of toxicity within organisations that take effect over time. We started to debate the question; ‘What would happen if companies were held to account by the government and had to measure, report and publish key metrics relating to their organisational culture?’ Would this drive positive change for both people and profits? Would toxic leaders be identified and challenged more robustly? We would love to know your thoughts. #ibexgale #organisationalculture #drsusanhetrick #leadership #positiveworkplacecultures

In the rapidly evolving landscape of the 21st century, the concept of leadership has become more crucial than ever. Leadership, at its core, is the ability to guide, inspire, and influence a group of people towards achieving a common goal. It’s not just about being in charge, but about paving the way for others to grow, thrive, and succeed. Here’s why leadership is so significant in today’s world: 👉 Adaptability: in an era marked by constant change and innovation, effective leaders are those who can adapt quickly, make sound decisions, and guide their teams through uncertain times. 👉 Empowerment: great leaders empower their team members, fosting an environment where everyone feels valued and heard. This boosts morale, productivity, and ultimately leads to better results. 👉 Vision: leaders provide a clear vision and direction, They set the course, ensuring everyone understands the end goal and the steps needed to get there. 👉 Resilience: today’s leaders face numerous challenges. Their resilience in the face of adversity not only keeps the team moving forward but also serves as a powerful example for others. 👉 Innovation: leaders play a key role in fostering a culture of innovation. They encourage new ideas, take calculated risks, and are not afraid of failure, driving progress in our ever-evolving world. Leadership is not just a position or a title. It’s about making a difference, inspiring others, and leaving a positive impact. As we navigate through the complexities of the modern world, effective leadership will continue to be a pivotal force behind our collective success. #Leadership #Empowerment #Innovation #Resilience

As leaders, we often focus on altering organisational processes and structures during times of change. However, as INSEAD Professor Narayan Pant compellingly argues in this Harvard Business Review article, personal reflection and transformation are often needed to ensure successful outward change. The Professor outlines a four-step process for personal change in leadership: (1) Increase Self-Awareness: Recognise how others see your leadership style and be open to feedback, especially during tough times. (2) Commit to Change: Make public commitments to the new behaviours you want to embody, enhancing your accountability. (3) Overcome Interference: Challenge the internal thoughts that hinder your progress and learn to navigate them with mindfulness. (4) Practise: Implement and refine new behaviours incrementally, learning as you go rather than expecting immediate perfection. “Behavior change is hard,” writes Naryan. “But it’s a skill leaders who want to succeed amid near-constant organizational change need to develop.” It’s well worth reading the article in full. It could be instrumental in shaping the way you lead our teams through transformative periods. https://lnkd.in/gT9EW-Xb And if you need support during a change programme, Change Associates has expertise in organisation design, transformation, leadership and culture and change management. https://lnkd.in/eASB4wJt #OrganisationalChange #ChangeManagement #ChangeLeadership

I’m encouraged to see organizations recognize there is a better way to lead; treat people as people. Some organizations are better than others, but it’s becoming a greater focus and that’s more important than ever in a post COVID world. That’s why my training company trains Relational Leadership skills to emerging and existing leaders. #RelationalLeadership #thetimeisnow #PEOPLEandProfit

According to the latest Gartner research, the top two priorities that HR Leaders recognise for 2024 are: ✨Leader and Manager Development ✨Organisational Culture So, how will your organisation focus on these two priorities in 2024? With intention, I hope. Don't wait until the new year starts to begin focusing on your team development and culture. Don't wait until you're already in the midst of new projects and priorities. Don't let the 'doing' distract you from focusing on culture as a priority, again. Be proactive in setting the tone for the new year by getting clear on why and how leadership development will be important for your organisation in 2024, and how you want this to shift the culture of your organisation for the better. Get clear on the culture you WANT to have, and do something about it. Human Leaders is hosting our last live session on Human Leadership and The Future of Work this Friday 8 December, in Sydney. This live session is for the HR Leader, Team Leader, CEO, Business Leader/Owner who's ready to develop a culture where people feel seen, valued an heard, and as a result are incredibly high performing and love what they do. Decisive Leadership as described in this Mckinsey article (thank you for sharing) has sparked my interest. It is a definite shift to how we see Leadership. The article talks about "Organizational health refers to how effectively leaders “run the place”—that is, how they make decisions, allocate resources, operate day to day, and lead their teams with the goal of delivering high performance, both near term and over time. Organizational health comprises three elements: how well the entire organization rallies around a common vision and strategy, how well the organization executes its strategy, and how well the organization innovates and renews itself over time." How then do we facilitate and build capacity for decisive Leadership, should be a question all organisations should be asking. In the wake of an ever-changing, uncertain and often turbulent external environment the key to sustained organisational health lies in leaders being able to create the conditions for clarity for their people. We have been working with leaders intensely for the last few years to do this by building their power practices of visioning, sense-making through competitive hyperawareness, fast strategic decision-making and listening to the future in our Egoless Leader program which kick-starts the building of collective resilience by helping leaders develop the skills to set a clear and compelling pathway for their organisations to get behind. This is not just about setting strategy in a workshop for a couple of days and then imposing it on your people, it's about how you tap into high order leadership skills, figure out your bigger why and then promote the vision and set the direction for others to be energised by at scale. This recent article links these power plays to clear and measurable impacts on sustained improvements in organisational health and resilience, have a read!
