Climate security must be included in the discussions around the support that Haiti requires. Populations fleeing conflict-affected areas must also contend with taking refuge in areas prone to climate related issues (floods, landslides, etc.). Furthermore, recovery and development related programs seldom consider the effects of deforestation, climate insecurity and climate change in their actions. They need to be, now more than ever.
It is time for multilateral and bilateral donors to rethink climate finance so it finally serves the needs of those living in fragile and conflict-affected states such as Haiti
Why international support for Haiti must include climate security
