Profound insights from some of the best in our industry.

Great article by Susan King, whom I know and greatly respect. A relevant point here is that the donor, a well respected journalist and publisher, has spent a life dedicated to facts, but unfortunately, the "facts" contained in a resume, job application, or tenure packet are often seen as "lesser than" or less relevant just because they are those of a woman or minority. That is implicit bias and we all have it in one way or another. Guarding against it isn't "affirmative action" (though I do think leveling the playing field DOES require intentionality). Why are the amazing resume and accomplishments of Nikole Hannah-Jones somehow not adding up to enough? So many studies show that when names and gender/race/ etc indicators are erased from resumes, different judgements are often made. My ask is that donors also check their biases at the door when expressing an opinion (and hopefully not a demand) and rely on the underlying facts and not those they see through glasses clouded, albeit often unintentionally, by those biases.

GET A JOB! By focusing on the under-researched area of workforce diversity among British sports journalists, this project will (1) provide new and much needed insights into the levels of diversity and inclusion (or lack thereof) at all levels of the industry, (2) explore the challenges and opportunities that sports journalists from minority groups encounter within the industry, and (3) provide insight into senior managers’ understandings of the current state of play. https://wp.me/p2F2y5-gat
