🇪🇺 Since 1991 the Visegrad Group (V4) has worked to move Hungary, Poland, Czechia and Slovakia closer to the European Union and NATO. However, the Russia-Ukraine war has changed everything. In this article, senior contributor Konrad S. explores how cheap Ukrainian grain has forced Poland to move away from EU consensus and ban Ukrainian grain imports. Szuminski suggests that at least two other V4 countries will follow suit. He goes on to argue that Zelensky has responded poorly, worsening relations between the V4 and Kyiv. He believes the European Union's failure to find a suitable solution is catastrophic and bound to cause friction in the bloc. #visegrad #v4 #poland #slovakia #hungary #czechia https://lnkd.in/er4k9fUu

The US has called on India to use its longstanding ties with Russia to urge President Vladimir Putin to halt the ongoing war in Ukraine. US Department of State spokesperson Mathew Miller highlighted the unique position India holds and emphasised the importance of persuading Russia to respect Ukraine’s sovereignty. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was recently in Russia for the 22nd India–Russia annual summit. Despite its ongoing war on Ukraine, India continues to maintain its strategic partnership with Russia, while advocating for dialogue and diplomacy to end the conflict. My latest article on the visit to Russia undertaken by North Korea's leader Kim jong-un. The purpose and outcome of the visit remained closely guarded. However, the visit came in the backdrop of Russian defence minister Shoigu's earlier trip to Pyongyang, and the growing space, nuclear and advanced technology ambitions of Kim Jong-un. This visit also signals to the West and its allies that North Korea can be a factor in the larger power equation impacting the current geopolitics. #northkorea #russia #kimjongun #vladimirputin #internationalrelations #geopolitics #eastasia
The #NorthKorean leader Kim Jong-Un visited #Russia from 12-17 Sept'23 travelling in his heavily armoured private train. The major outcome of this visit is the deepening of relationship between North Korea & Russia. Know more on this, Read #ICWAIssueBrief by Dr. Tunchinmang Langel, RF, ICWA. On 8 December 1991, the leaders of three republics of the Soviet Union, Russian president Boris Yeltsin, Ukrainian president Leonid Kravchuk, and Chairman of Belarusian parliament Stanislav Shushkevich (along with their prime ministers, and a first deputy prime minister in case of Russia) agreed to dissolve the Soviet Union. They did that as three out of four founding members of the Soviet Union, which in turn was established on 30 December 1922. For that purpose, they gathered near Viskuli in Belavezhskaya Pushcha, Belarus, at the former dacha of Nikita Khrushchev. The Belovezha Accords signed at that meeting have established a new formation, a Commonwealth of Independent States. The execution of these documents was a complete surprise for the USSR president Mikhail Gorbachev, as well as for the leaders of other republics. On 13 December 1991, though, the leaders of five Central Asia USSR republics, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, at the meeting in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, expressed their willingness to join the CIS. And on 21 December 1991, the Almaty Declaration was signed by representatives of 11 of 15 republics of the USSR (except for Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Georgia) in which the goals and principles of the CIS were laid down. On 25 December 1991, by a statute, the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic was renamed as the Russian Federation. On the evening the same day, Mikhail Gorbachev resigned as the first and last president of the Soviet Union. After this, the state flag of the USSR was lowered from the flagpole of the Kremlin and the Russian flag was raised. On 26 December 1991, the Council of Republics of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR adopted a declaration which stated that following the creation of the CIS, the USSR as a state and the subject of international law ceases to exist. #ussr #russia #history #internationallaw #law

I think this was one of the most important four minutes in the recent history of diplomacy. Bravo to Mr. Sikorski for exposing the biggest lies and propaganda that #Russia spreads around the world for decades. Of course, much more could be said, but in the age of social media maybe the best way to counteract lies and #disinformation is to give strong and brief information. I personally remember the collapse of the Soviet Union in the 90's. I believe I will witness the collapse of #Putin's Russia, as well. #Ukraine #Poland #warinukraine

Since so-called "end" of the Cold War, there has been and continues to be a strategic realignment of major and minor powers. BRICS expansion, the fall of Russia's, once elite status on the world stage, to a junior partner with Xi. It also may provide insights into Modi's strategic calculus in what so many call Great Power Competition. The role that Modi's Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), and their radical Hindutva's, racist, ultra-nationalist and violently anti-Muslim ideology plays in shoring up his political base prior to upcoming elections, should not be discounted. I find The Diplomat a valuable resource for an alternate perspective regarding a region so important to all of our futures. https://lnkd.in/gpnpAfr4

JUST IN: Russian President Vladimir Putin has criticized the failed Middle East policy of the United States and called for the establishment of a Palestinian state amidst escalating violence. Putin accuses the US of monopolizing peace efforts without considering compromises and ignoring Palestinian aspirations. The region faces a rising death toll, and concerns grow over the conflict spreading. Questions about Russia's ties with Iran and their involvement in Ukraine add complexity. The situation requires careful diplomacy and international cooperation. #MiddleEast #Israel #Palestine #Conflict To learn more and read the complete story, click on this link. https://lnkd.in/gebaBVjz

Armenia today is at a loss - the existential need to replace Russia, which has failed to cope with the role of a regional policeman, does not provide a comforting choice - the alternative to strengthening Turkey and Azerbaijan is an alliance with Iran - a strong regional player that has supported Armenia for a long time, but is an outcast for the Western world, to which Armenia aspires to a greater extent than to the Eastern civilization. https://lnkd.in/dvMPYhxQ
