Is tennis in danger? At a recent Wimbledon Press Conference, Novak Djokovic mentioned that tennis is the 4th most watched sport in the world, along with cricket. But in terms of commercializing, it is in the 9th place! I've played tennis for 20+ years now! It is a sport that is very close to my heart. And I am in constant discussion about it with my fellow tennis mates. During one such conversation a few months back, discussion of Padel & pickle all came up. We were discussing how more and more people are getting into it because of how easy it is to play for all age groups, and the skill level that's needed is relatively low. Also, it requires less space, so it is easier to commercialize more. Many people are actually converting their tennis courts into padel or pickleball courts. Does that put tennis in danger? Yes, tennis will be in danger if there is no innovation in the space, if people don't find ways to make it more accessible to the public, and if it doesn't stay relevant. One thing that came up in our discussion was that maybe we can have new formats like a T20 version for tennis to make it more interesting and for attracting a young audience. And when I saw this interview where Novak Djokovic mentions the same issues that we tennis players are noticing, it really resonated. What are your views on this? Table tennis at the highest level can be considered an "infinite game" for several reasons: - No specific end point: In table tennis, the goal is not only to win a specific match but also to continuously improve, develop skills, and maintain competitiveness at the highest level. - No time limit: While each match has a specific duration, a table tennis athlete's career is not limited by a certain time frame. They can continue to play and compete for many years. - Continuous development: Table tennis requires constant development in technique, tactics, and physicality. Athletes are always looking to push their limits and those of their opponents. - Continuity and no stopping point: Table tennis players do not just play to win each match but also to maintain and develop the game. They do not stop after each failure but continue striving for higher achievements. These factors make table tennis not just a sport but also an infinite game, where the goal is not only to win but also to progress and develop endlessly.

As the 137th Wimbledon Championship gets underway, those inspired to recreate their favourite match moments at home will find a choice of 1,050 homes currently available to buy across the country which come complete with their own tennis court. With a median price tag of £1.35m, this year’s Championship runner-up, with a prize of £1.4m, would be able to afford one. Homes with tennis courts can be found in every region across the UK but they are most popular in the South East (37%), East of England (14%) and London (14%).
