Deep seabed mining (DSM) carries risk to financial performance. The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) is a global initiative that provides guidance and recommendations to help organizations understand how nature and biodiversity loss affect their financial performance. ⛏ Guidance on mining, finalized and published this month, calls out all seabed areas as "sensitive" 🐙 for purposes of site evaluation, and directly notes negative impacts of DSM. Seabed mining could pose grave threats to global #biodiversity, #climate and #socialjustice. This is why Salesforce joined the business statement supporting a moratorium on deep seabed mining. The documents provide guidance on how each sector can apply the LEAP approach, how to apply the core disclosure metrics outlined in the TNFD’ recommendations published in September 2023, and a list of recommended core and additional sector disclosure indicators and metrics.
