Last week, the Raleigh, North Carolina, Chamber of Commerce visited Atlanta to learn from a panel discussion hosted by our DEI team. The 175 chamber members (including the mayor, city council, and several chamber of commerce members) sought to understand how they could advance equitable treatment, support inclusivity-seeking organizations, and experience a Center dedicated to creating more equitable environments. The panel featured Al Vivian, President of Basic Diversity; Phil Polk, DEI Lead at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights; Nancy Johnson, President of the Atlanta chapter of the National Urban League; and Doug Shipman, President of Atlanta City Council. The panelist discussed the topic, "Atlanta: A city too busy to hate," and dove deep into how organizations can work together to model inclusion and partnership. #FeelThePower #DEIatNCCHR #DEI #ChamberofCommerce

In light of the recent debate sparked by ABC's Laura Tingle's comments regarding racism in Australia, I'd like to take a moment to reflect on the broader issue at hand: Freedom of speech and expression. Laura Tingle expressed her views in a personal capacity, and whether we agree with her perspective or not, it's crucial to remember the fundamental right to freedom of speech. In a democratic society, diverse opinions and open dialogue are the cornerstones of progress. Discourse and debate, when conducted respectfully, help us understand different viewpoints and foster a more inclusive community. This principle is especially important within a work setting. Accepting and respecting different views is critical to promoting diversity, inclusion, and innovation. When we create an environment where everyone feels safe to express their opinions, we unlock the full potential of our teams, driving creativity and progress. It's important that we protect the right to express differing opinions, even when they challenge our own beliefs. Let's strive to engage in constructive conversations that promote understanding and growth, rather than stifling voices with which we may disagree. #FreedomOfSpeech #OpenDialogue #Inclusivity #RespectfulDebate #Diversity #Innovation #LauraTingle

The Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility (HACR) proudly announces that its President and CEO, Cid Wilson, will embark on a monumental journey this Hispanic Heritage Month. Starting from Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, Wilson will walk over 200 miles to Wall Street in New York City to raise awareness about the critical gaps in diversity, equity, representation, inclusion, and belonging that persist in Corporate America. Wilson, 54, will travel on foot over four weeks, making his way past iconic landmarks including the U.S. White House, and through significant cities such as Baltimore, MD; Wilmington, DE; Philadelphia, PA; Trenton, NJ; Princeton, NJ; and New Brunswick, NJ. This journey is more than just a physical feat; it is a powerful statement aimed at drawing attention to the need for comprehensive diversity and inclusion across all levels of corporate structure—executive positions, C-suite roles, corporate boards, supplier procurement, and philanthropic giving. "Despite progress over the years, Corporate America still has a long way to go in terms of achieving true diversity, representation, and inclusion," said Wilson. "This walk symbolizes the journey we must all undertake to bridge these gaps. Each step I take is a call to action for companies to commit to meaningful change and equity in the workplace. 2024 is not a time to slow down, or back down, and it’s certainly not a time to turn around. It’s a time to double down on diversity, equity, and inclusion." Past President, Chartered Institute of Housing - CEO, Black on Board Ltd - #socialhousing advocate - Trustee - Non-Executive Director at Housing21 - #affordablehousing landlord - #windrush campaigner - glass half full
It is a nice coincidence that the tenure of Chartered Institute of Housing President starts / ends in October - #BlackHistoryMonth. I'm Saluting My Sisters in #socialhousing. I'm saluting everyone working to provide tenants a safe and secure place to live. I'm saluting all my black and brown colleagues working in #housingassociations and #localauthority #housing departments. #InMyShoes is asking the sector a number of questions.; 🎈 Are you treating your black staff fairly? 🎈 Do you recognise your white privilege? 🎈 Does it matter if your exec team is all white? 🎈 What difference does it make whether or not your board is reflective of the communities you serve? 🎈 Are people not being promoted because they're not in the right clique? 🎈 Do your staff have the confidence to genuinely call out bad behaviour and bad practice? 🎈 Does your organisation look as good as your EDI policy suggests? Oh, and below is a reminder of what I said in 2022 when I was Vice President. How have I done? https://www.

For more than a century, metro Atlanta has been home to countless leaders and organizations that have worked to advance civil rights and racial equity. Still, as Atlanta leads the nation as a welcoming location with a rich Black community, systemic racism, immobility and inequity are all too prevalent. The Metro Atlanta Chamber honors the region's civil rights history and is embodying the urgency of now to rally the region's business community to take bold actions that help solve some of our most pressing problems through ATL Action for Racial Equity. This new effort will accelerate racial equity by leveraging the size and scale of our business community, and the power of collective impact. Together we will generate meaningful change, dismantle systemic racism and make our community – and world – a better place. Today is #Juneteenth, a significant date in American history. On June 19th each year, we commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. In 2021, President Joe Biden officially made Juneteenth a federal holiday. Juneteenth is not just a day of remembrance, but a call to action. It's a time to reflect on the progress we’ve made and recognize the work still needed to achieve true #equality. At RWE, we are committed to fostering a culture of inclusivity and equity. In today’s landscape, speaking up against racism is essential. That’s why we had a keynote event with Ellen Wagner, a leading Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (#DEI) speaker and author. The session was about how to be an active ally in fighting racism, from identifying racism, taking actionable steps as an ally, and cultivating inclusive spaces where everyone feels heard. By promoting #diversity and inclusion within our industry, we can ensure that the benefits of a sustainable future are shared by all. Let's continue to work together to build a more equitable world, both in our communities and beyond.
