++ Building the Neurodiversity Talent Pipeline for the Future of Work ++ Harnessing the potential of neurodivergent individuals could help employers build a more future-ready workforce. Creativity, lateral (or nonlinear) thinking, reverse engineering to solve problems, hyperfocus, and multisensory pattern recognition; these are all distinct areas in which neurodivergent candidates might excel and all stand to become increasingly important as artificial intelligence embeds itself into our daily lives. According to James Mahoney, head of the Autism at Work program at JPMorgan Chase, an internal study found that autistic employees — when correctly onboarded — demonstrated up to 140% (!) greater productivity than neurotypical peers hired for the same positions. Great read on neurodiversity 👇 >> https://lnkd.in/eifdYB5T

Exciting times at Workhuman Live in Austin, TX! Listening to Brene Brown and other amazing speakers has been an eye-opening experience. Today's session on DEIB got me thinking about the value of diversity, especially diversity of thought. It's crucial to have a diverse group of people sitting at the table to tackle the biggest challenges of the day. Brene's talk on the future of AI needing to be shaped by HR and the “people” people in organizations is a call to action. Can you imagine if only engineers were making these decisions? It's important to ask ourselves: who's in the room having the discussion? Are they all the same? Do they all think the same? Let's work together to ensure we have a variety of perspectives at the table to tackle the challenges we face. Diversity of thought is the ROI for having a diverse workforce.

Study Group Leader, Mannat Singh, fills us in on what she's following in the Future of Work space 👇 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐅o𝐖 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧? I am deeply interested in shaping a future of work that is just and equitable. Achieving this vision requires substantial investments in education, linking job aspirations to available opportunities, and fostering inclusive and fair working conditions. Given advancements in technology and artificial intelligence that run the risk of displacing human talent, it is imperative to focus our efforts on skilling, reskilling, and upskilling individuals. It is only by employing these approaches that we can adapt to changing industry needs while ensuring that we leave no one behind. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐜? “The Effects of Exposure to Better Neighborhoods on Children: New Evidence from the Moving to Opportunity Experiment” (https://lnkd.in/eratH4pH) which I came across during Raj Chetty’s class on “Using Big Data to Solve Economic and Social Problems”. The study revealed that children who moved to economically stronger residential areas witnessed better outcomes in terms of improved college-going rates and higher income levels. Other interesting pieces I have encountered include “Hidden Workers: Part Time Potential” (https://lnkd.in/eiTzD-Pd) by Joseph Fuller, Manjari Raman, & Francis Hintermann, and “Imagining a Future of Work That Fosters Mobility for All” (https://lnkd.in/gSdbwvtT) by Lawrence Katz, Ai-jen Poo, and Elaine Waxman. 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐰𝐞 𝐛𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞? Well, The Project on Workforce at Harvard, of course! I’d also encourage people to listen to the Project on Managing the Future of Work podcasts (https://lnkd.in/eWBZAh2) to stay engaged with developments in the future of work. Additionally, the The Brookings Institution has been conducting extensive research on the implications of COVID-19, AI, energy transition, and other changes in workforce development.

President, HRH Media Group LLC | Strategic Engagement, University of Washington Continuum College | Immersive Storytelling, Foot Soldiers Park in Selma, Alabama
2024 is already proving to be a pivotal year for the world. With more than two billion voters in fifty countries heading to the polls, including 160 million in the United States for our fall presidential election, geopolitical upheaval is inevitable. But the changes don't stop there. #artificialintelligence is expected to go mainstream, unsettling the workforce and upending our human power dynamics. As the World Economic Forum recently shared, "44% of workers’ core skills will be disrupted, because technology is moving faster than companies can design and scale up their training programs." In light of these forces, I've been working closely with two globally important organizations to consider how this changes the way we work and learn. I just finished co-hosting a massive career development event for Microsoft’s tens of thousands of employees globally, where we focused on how to thrive in a changing world. As I interviewed some of the company’s top leaders, I realized that we must explicitly question how AI can change what we all do for a living. After that event concluded yesterday, I crossed Lake Washington to Seattle to host the all-staff meeting for another of my longstanding institutional partners, the University of Washington’s UW Continuum College. Even as regard for higher education in America continues to plummet, the leadership of this 112-year-old educational outreach entity seeks to increase access and belonging for everyone by “extending the university into the community.” That’s a crucial demonstration of its value for workforce development in this time of tumult. These two organizations’ priorities only amplify our need to adapt and work together as we meet this moment of historic disruption, along with profound shifts in power. *** I highly recommend this recent HBR article: “Leading in a World Where AI Wields Power of Its Own” by my friend Henry Timms OBE and Jeremy Heimans, observing that AI isn’t just our latest set of digital tools but rather nascently autonomous agents “that possess a type of wisdom”, which they call “autosapiens.” https://lnkd.in/g82u_WJP
