Some exciting developments from Capitol Hill have unfolded in recent weeks. The Biden-Harris Administration has taken significant strides in strengthening the United States' bioeconomy with the launch of the National Bioeconomy Board. The launch of the Board signals a bright future, as the rapid expansion of biomanufacturing over the next two decades is set to enhance societal well-being, national security, sustainability, economic productivity, and competitiveness across the country. With a solid foundation already in place, highlighted by over $20 billion in biomanufacturing investments and the Board's strategic direction to bolster economic growth, we're entering an exciting new chapter in the bioeconomy. At Synonym, we're enthusiastic about playing a pivotal role in this transformative era for the U.S. bioeconomy and are eager for the innovative breakthroughs and partnerships that lie ahead. Adviseert over duurzaam productontwerp en bedrijfsvoering, verpakkingen, kunststoffen, en productieprocessen
Looking back at a successful meeting from the EC's Expert Group on Carbon Removals. Partners for Innovation helped prepare a session on long-term biogenic carbon storage in buildings. Together with Sinead O' Keeffe from Wageningen University & Research we analysed 30 calculation and certification methods for carbon storage in biobased building materials. The EC has proposed a regulation on how to reliably certify carbon storage. We looked how current methods deal with aspects such as additionality and monitoring and what the best practices are. Last week I presented our findings and it was discussed with 60+ experts from the Expert Group. In the next steps we'll support the experts in ongoing discussion online and formulating an advice to the Committee.

UK IS MOVING AHEAD ON BIOSOLUTIONS ... so the pressure is building on EU to act. 👊 Earlier this week, UK launched a new national vision for "engineering biology". That's what we call biosolutions. The national vision defines the UK government’s ambition for biosolutions and sets the direction for government investment, policy, and regulatory reform for the next decade. A few highlights: 💰 Spending £2 billion on engineering biology over the next ten years. 🗺 A central Steering Group, which will bring together both the current and the next generation of academic, start-up and industry leaders. ⚙ £5m will be spent on new regulatory sandboxes for engineering biology 🔬 Focus on public investment for R&D, investing in infrastructure for start-up and scale-up, fostering scientific/technical/entrepreneurial talent, cross-sector work to improve regulatory frameworks, etc. The background is imperative. It shows that biosolutions in the UK is deemed a truly transformative technology. In pioneering new solutions across industries that will make future generations healthier, more prosperous, and live more sustainably. That's what biosolutions is about and that's why the EU needs to act on delivering a new initiative to match our US, UK, and Chinese peers. It's now or never to deliver on a greener, more sustainable world. #dkpol #dkgreen #dkbio #biosolutions

Look, Mum, I was on Parliament TV!! Honestly, though, today has possibly been the greatest day of my professional career. Here's Part 1: This morning, I testified as an expert witness before the House of Lords Committee on Science and Technology and gave evidence on engineering biology alongside the incredible Mary Maxon and Hendrik Waegeman. We discussed international policy, regulation, infrastructure, talent, funding, and immigration, and how it all impacts the UK's engbio industry. No surprise, there was a lot to unpack: All of these challenges are linked together, from investor reluctance due to a lack of regulatory clarity to government procurement and the lack of critical pilot plant infrastructure. If this sounds boring to you, don't fear! I will happily talk your head off about growth investment, feedstocks, waste valorisation, international collaboration, and so much more in a very cheerful, entertaining way. You can see my less aggressively happy version in the full testimony here 👉 👉 https://lnkd.in/eC26eC9M But wait, that's not all!! I also had the privilege of supporting the Embassy of the United States of America, London in their US-UK Partnership Opportunity Delegation for synthetic biology - but that will have to wait until Part 2 😉 A huge thank you to Thomas Hornigold and the entire UK House of Lords Committee for hearing us today. Eagerly looking forward to these recommendations and what's coming next for the UK engbio industry! It's exciting to see our results from the biological elimination of waste plastic. If you're sending contaminated waste plastic to landfill or incineration, reach out!! The Alkany biological process targets the most difficult to recycle plastics, separating residual gases for reconstitution into new plastics, useable gases (O2, CO2, CH4) and Fertilisers (CO(NH2)2) as well as enriched organic waste from the Anaerobic process. #esginvesting
As part of our natural solutions to waste plastics, Alkany is proud to be a founding industry partner of the Nano Microplastics Research Consortium, whose research aims to foster an inclusive international community, establishing shared data collection standards across existing experts in the field of nano and microplastics from industry and research alike. www.nmrc.com.au www.alkany.com
