I'm raising money to support the life-saving mission of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital by participating in the St. Jude Walk/Run 2023. Every dollar counts! https://lnkd.in/etTmdyZj -St. Jude is the first and only pediatric cancer center to be designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute. -St. Jude is where doctors send their toughest cases because we have the best world’s best survival rates for the most aggressive childhood cancers. -82 cents of EVERY dollar go straight to research/treatment (the other 18% supports fundraising and administrative costs) -Regardless of the duration or the cost of care, families never receive a bill from St. Jude -July 13, 2022 marked the beginning of the largest strategic investment in our 60-year history. The Six-Year St. Jude Strategic Plan commits $12.9 billion to focus on the expansion of patient care and clinical and laboratory-based research related to pediatric catastrophic illnesses, including work in cancer, blood disorders, neurological diseases, and infectious diseases. What does this awesome little guy have to do with lung cancer, you ask? This is one of our two dogs, Mr. Chew, and he LOVES walking at the Flowood Nature Park. I could have done better at self-care the last few years - including physical activity - and I'm working to change that. It's often easier to lace up my shoes if I have external motivators like Mr. Chew. Now, I'm adding another. Between now and October 26, 2004, I aim to raise at least $888 in support of LUNGevity Foundation. Their annual events, Breathe Deep TOGETHER and Breathe Deep ANYWHERE, are platforms for raising crucial funding to support all those living with lung cancer. I have two action items for my LinkedIn colleagues: 1) Please agree to be my "accountability partners" in my commitment to becoming more physically active while raising money to support LUNGevity's vital work, and 2) Please support my fundraiser if you can (link below). I promise to check in occasionally and keep you posted on my mileage, Mr. Chew, and my progress toward my fundraising goal. Mr. Chew says, "Whaddaya waiting for? Let's get walking!" https://lnkd.in/gQY_NgeD

This is not just a story about the best breakfast - it’s a story about a best friend (who needs help for the worst reason). Almost every morning I eat toast with banana and peanut butter. It’s been at least ten years and I’m not sick of it (and hope I never will be). If you haven’t tried it, consider this your wake-up call. And just so you know, I always slice up the banana in rounds and lay them out like this (I promise this will matter later): [OOOO] [OOOO] [OOOO] One of the perks of a best friend is you can stay with them when you’re in town, and they’ll offer to pick up your favorite breakfast foods and snacks. (Or is it just that my friends and I really care about food??) That’s exactly what happened a couple of years ago when I was in New York and stayed with Devin Bramhall. I let her know about the banana and toast situation, and of course she made sure to have some on hand. What happened next absolutely blew me away. Ever-thoughtful Devin, of course, had toast ready and waiting for me when I woke up. I was so thrilled (I'm a post-hibernation bear cub in the morning) - then I looked at the plate and my jaw dropped. [( )( )( )] [( )( )( )] [( )( )( )] Devin had made peanut butter toast with bananas in a way I had *never seen before*. She sliced the banana lengthwise (kind of hard to tell from my crummy text art up there) and laid it out in neat rows across the toast. 🤯🤩 She had shown me an entirely new angle on something I saw every day. I think about this now almost every time I make this breakfast for myself, because it encapsulates so much of what I love about Devin - she is unendingly kind and generous and would do anything for her friends. But she is also the most creative person I have ever met and approaches everything with a totally new perspective. You will always encounter the unexpected with Devin. Now, Devin is facing the unexpected herself - an incredibly rare form of ovarian cancer. Treatment has made it difficult for her to work and support herself, so it’s our turn to support her. An amazing lineup of marketers is teaming up to put on a fundraiser for Devin, taking place on Monday. Sign up or donate below, it will go such a long way. Register now: jayacunzo.com/devin And don't forget to try this breakfast. I swear, it's the best (and so is Devin).
