The first week of the North Carolina Global TransPark ACE Academy was action-packed! Camp attendees learned about potential aviation careers and the history and principles of flight, explored various aircraft types, visited a local airport and aviation industry, and flew drones! Excellent aerospace and aviation careers abound here in eastern NC, and the ACE Academy is showing that. We are grateful for the wonderful partnerships that made this week happen! Special thanks to presenters Greene County Schools, Lenoir County Schools, North Carolina Global TransPark, and Lenoir Community College for hosting the event. FRC East C130 MRO Complex Construction UPDATE: The land clearing was finished in mid-June, and the site development is now being carried out by the joint venture of Barnhill Contracting Company and TA Loving Company, which will serve as the construction manager. The contractors' office trailers have been set up on-site, and current objectives, including over-excavation removal, fill hauling, and fence improvements, are now ongoing. This complex will provide space for Fleet Readiness Center East to perform maintenance operations on C130s and other aircraft for the Air Force and Navy, bring over 400 aviation jobs to the North Carolina Global TransPark and positively impact the economy of eastern NC and the EDR region. EDR’s Trey Cash continued the Speaker Series events via Microsoft Teams with STEM East earlier this week. Greene County and Lenoir County Manufacturing Association members heard how STEM East collaborates with regional businesses, school districts, economic development offices, and others to engage students across our region in real-world STEM learning opportunities. Guest speakers were Trey Goodson, David Lewis, and Donna Phillips. Thanks to all who attended.
