The Italian Ministry of Defence submitted for approval to both chambers of parliament documents related to the Leopard 2A8IT main battle tank procurement programme. Italy plans the acquisition of 272 heavy vehicles, of which only 132 will be the combat variant (Leopard 2A8IT main battle tanks), while the remainder will be support vehicles (technical support vehicles, engineer tanks, assault bridges). The total value of the programme is expected to reach EUR 8.2 billion. The project’s timeframe is estimated at approximately 14 years. The leader of the programme will be KNDS. However, Leopard 2A8IT tanks will be produced at the Leonardo facility in La Spezia, where an assembly line is already being established. The Leopard 2A8 procurement programme will pave the way for Italy’s participation in the Franco-German future combat vehicle programme, the Main Ground Combat System (MGCS). The flying Howitzer Originating from the versatile C-130 Hercules, designed initially for troop and cargo transport, the AC-130 has evolved into a formidable airborne fortress, integrating sophisticated weaponry and surveillance capabilities to dominate battlefields across the globe. This transformation from a transport workhorse into a heavily armed gunship underscores its unique adaptation to the evolving needs of modern warfare, making it a cornerstone of U.S. military strategy in numerous international conflicts. It spans 97 feet in length, stands 38 feet tall, and boasts a wingspan of 132 feet. The C-130 platform's robust design and ample cargo space proved adaptable to the AC-130's heavy armament and battlefield requirements. Powering this giant are four Rolls-Royce AE 2100D3 turboprops, each producing 4,700 shaft horsepower, propelling the gunship to a top speed of 300 mph at sea level. The AC-130J model, the latest in its lineage, can soar to an operational ceiling of 28,000 feet, has a top speed of more than 415 miles per hour and a range of about 3,000 miles, plus the ability to refuel mid-air. From the day one the AC-130's armament portfolio underscored its status as a formidable airborne weapons platform. The AC-130J Ghostrider, the latest iteration in the AC-130 series, boasts a remarkable upgrade with its enhanced Precision Strike Package. This advanced arsenal integrates state-of-the-art missile technology, including the agile AGM-176 Griffin and the famous AGM-114 Hellfire, along with the GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb known for its low-collateral damage in precision strikes. Complementing these sophisticated missiles are an internal 30mm MK44 cannon which is famous for its precision and a trainable M102 105mm howitzer. The 105mm howitzer, specifically, combined with the very stable firing platform the AC-130 provides, offers a very accurate weapon that can deliver a significant degree of destructive effect on a precise location, and then immediately be redirected to fire on another target. This artillery piece is primarily employed for suppressing enemy positions with its high-explosive shells, which are effective against entrenched troops and lightly armored targets. Additionally, it is used for demolishing buildings and fortifications, and the loud noise and explosive impact of its rounds also serve to psychologically intimidate enemy forces. It can fire up to 10 rounds per minute, and has an operational range of approximately 7.1 miles (11,500 meters) to 12.1 miles (19,500 meters) depending on the ammunition used.

Switzerland has commenced the delivery of Leopard 2 A4 battle tanks to Rheinmetall, a German defence manufacturer. The first batch of nine tanks was transported by rail on January 30, 2024, marking the beginning of a series of deliveries that will see a total of 25 Leopard 2 A4 tanks returned to the manufacturer by January 31, 2024. This decision follows the Swiss Federal Council’s approval on November 22, 2023, of an export request from Rheinmetall, in line with a commitment not to transfer these tanks to Ukraine. The Swiss Armed Forces, which currently operates 134 modernized Leopard 2 A4 tanks and has an additional 96 decommissioned units, has ensured that the tanks will remain in Germany or be used by NATO or EU member states, responding to a request from German ministers in February 2023. During the FIDAE 2024 exhibition in Santiago, Turkish defence company Aselsan unveiled a model of the Leopard 2A4CHL tank, showcasing upgrades planned for the Chilean Army’s fleet. The modernization focuses primarily on electronic equipment and a new fire control system. In July 2023, Chile signed a USD 123.5 million deal with Aselsan for the upgrades, although specific details about the scope and timeline of the modernization, or local industry involvement, remain undisclosed. As part of this contract, Aselsan recently established an office in Santiago. Chile’s current fleet comprises 140 Leopard 2A4 tanks, originally purchased from Germany in the early 2000s. These vehicles, representing mid-1980s standards, are among the most formidable tanks in South America, second only to Venezuela’s T-72B in armor and Argentina’s TAM 2C in firepower. Kratos Defense and Boeing are partnering to develop the Powered Joint Direct Attack Munition (PJDAM), a kit that can convert a 500-lb "dumb" bomb into a precision cruise missile. A "dumb bomb" refers to a conventional, unguided munition that lacks any form of guidance or targeting systems. Dumb bombs are typically dropped from an aircraft, and their trajectory and impact are determined solely by the laws of physics, such as gravity and air resistance. They are not actively directed to a specific target and do not have the ability to make mid-flight adjustments. PJDAM includes a guidance system, GPS navigation, seeker sensors, and a tail-mounted steering system, allowing it to land within 16 feet of its intended target. Boeing has been working on enhancing the JDAM's range, and the new PJDAM will incorporate Kratos' TDI-J85 turbine engine, capable of producing 200 lbs of thrust. The goal is to create a low-cost, long-range, precision strike capability that complements existing weapons systems and supports US defense. Creating low-cost, innovative defense solutions like these is important for a few different reasons. The first is solely budget-based, making DoD dollars go further, but it also makes it easier to equip allies with the tools they need along with rapid acquisition capabilities. #DefenseTechnology #PrecisionStrike #Innovation

SIMULATION:: ASBM & DRONE SWARMS ::SIMULATION Now isn't this a thought? The only things separating us today from what we can do and what we can achieve is our willingness to DO it. If your thinking of the problems to do it, I'm thinking of how to do it. Its the thinking here I appreciate.
“Moreover, testing an alternative scenario, the researchers also replaced the warheads carried eight missiles with six drones in each. This led to the creation of drone swarm warheads. Upon reaching the warships, the missiles released the drones which were programmed to take the focus of their air defense systems away. This cleared the way for a missile attack, and the drone swarms too then attacked any remaining vessels.” The idea of nested systems is intriguing. Completely controllable submunitions.
