Some thoughts late in the night 🌙 "Attention Is All You Need" by Vaswani et al. was published in June 2017. 📚 At that time, no one anticipated the emergence of large language models (LLMs) and their profound impact on the industry and modeling approaches. 🤯 Since I started working in the NLP field, nearly every company has been striving to create their proprietary model, hoping it would give them a competitive edge once deployed. 💼📈 Now, companies investing money to build models from scratch are falling behind. 📉 We're witnessing the rise of monopolistic firms that are so powerful, they're delivering highly advanced and universal models. 🌐 The rest of the market adapts these off-the-shelf solutions to their specific needs. 🔧 This shift will likely significantly impact the job market and employment in the data science and AI sectors. 🤖🔍 I suspect it won't be cost-effective for companies to hire an entire AI team, given the associated expenses. 💸 Such services will be outsourced.
