Through a collaboration between Waterways Ireland, Fáilte Ireland and Monaghan County Council (Ireland), we would like to create a shared vision for Clones Marina in partnership with community, business and industry stakeholders. The discussion document, A Vision for Waterside Development, explores ideas and the potential around this regional opportunity for Clones and its new Marina, connecting the waterways network of the River Shannon and Lough Erne with the Greenway network of the Ulster Canal route, placing Clones and its Marina centrally along a unique, active and engaging visitor corridor. The key concepts of this vision are: ⏺ Connecting the proposed Marina with Clones town centre, Monaghan and the wider border region. ⏺ To encourage and support local enterprise and the local economy through complimentary activities. ⏺ To test, develop and promote water-based ideas and activities. ⏺ Attract more visitors to Clones and the wider border region. ⏺ To create a distinctive borderland hub along the wider waterways network. Attending a global conference always brings you new perspectives. Some reflections on returning from an excellent Destinations International Annual Convention #diac23dallas where I joined an incredible panel to share insights from BESydney's partnerships and collaboration on #DEI and #sustainability.... ☺The Good - a reminder on the importance of international business travel and meeting with global peers to broaden your world view, smash your local biases and provide new inspiration and tools for #b2bmarketingstrategy, #thoughtleadership #collaboration and enhanced #customerexperience. 😕 The Bad - the absence of #firstnationspeople engagement at international conferences. These events showcase progress to the world. I'm saddened that Australia was a late bloomer in this area, but #historyiscalling and I'm excited to be part of efforts to walk a new path together. Hopefully a YES vote in #thevoice referendum later this year will finally signal a coming of age. 🤞 😞 The ugly... #singleuseplastics as far as the eye could see. Don't get me wrong, I hate soggy paper straws just as much as the next person. But seriously, it is time for significant venues, #eventprofs and our multitude of peak industry bodies to take a stand and ban plastic straws and packaging at #businessevents. #leadershipmatters Guy Genevieve Virginie Melissa Minto Kiri David Jack Don Gabriel Sophia Katie Chris Lauren Inga Jessica Robin Kelly Jane Professor Megan Sally Tanya Ann Bec Lyn Susan Yatu Tharani Vanessa ROBYN Joanna Sophie Miranda Maree Alexandra Kara Lynette Susie #womenleadersforthevoice https://lnkd.in/gKt_bUZ5

Some of you might have heard of the "Night Economy" and depending where you are (or reside) this could be the difference between peaceful nights for residents and the increasing flows of "gangs" trying to cash in on making that "experience" unique - from drugs to prostitution. I have spent a good portion of my life (as a lobbyist) in Ottawa Canada - often described as the most boring capital in the world. Once in a while this article (improved on a regular basis) compares Ottawa (the City that never woke-up) to New York (the City that never sleeps). https://lnkd.in/e7mPJkTX Now the tales of two capital cities - one under the leadership of Mark Sutcliffe who is also looking at developing the Night Economy to attract the festival, beer drinking crowds to the city, and ..... ....Cali Colombia (4655 km away from Ottawa), where I do spend a good portion of my life, is also known (in Colombia) as the capital of the Salsa - La Sucursal del Cielo. The newly elected mayor Alejandro Eder seems to want to continue with a night economy that brought no less than 1000 homicides in the city last year alone. This article from TOPOSOPHY brings a little clarity on what could a respectful night economy could look like. So when it comes to the Night Economy, it's a can you have your cake and eat it too....unless you have strong regulations and extensive consultations by the communities that will be affected by partygoers with no curfews. #ottawa #cali #nighttimeeconomy https://lnkd.in/eRw_hSjF

Indigenous Business Month 2023 (October) The theme for Indigenous Business Month 2023 is ‘To Gather, Together’, which as you know is the key strength of us Culturally but it is also how we develop relationships of substance that underpins that most important social mechanism, Community. As we gather together we get to know each other, our shared values, our differences, our perspectives and lived experiences. By gathering together we develop rapport, resilience, respect, communication, strategies and supports that exist in reciprocity. When we collectively contribute to and benefit from community we also develop an accountability to community that benefits us all. It is in gathering together we find connection, support, challenge, inspiration, growth, empathy, education, contribution and prosperity that is for the betterment of all concerned. It is often said that the calibre of a person is measured by the people / community surrounding them. We are very much of that conviction and are relentlessly humbled by the caliber of company we enjoy. So, in the 9th Indigenous Business Month 2023, please vote with your feet and actively support Indigenous Businesses in your day to day business and personal dealings. We look forward to gathering together with you and/or hosting you and/or introducing you to other deadly Indigenous Businesses in our community. Remember, just like National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week, things tend to get busy as we’re in high demand. Let’s get things locked in ahead of time. Thank you, see you soon. Columbia Valley’s Special Events Strategy Builds a Year-Round Destination Special events have been part of the tourism offering in the Columbia Valley, and they provide significant economic benefits to the region’s economy. During COVID-19, however, several signature events were shut down. Costs were increasing, travel was declining and the area was facing competition from events from other communities. With the support of ETSI-BC, the communities of the Columbia Valley came together to develop an events development strategy that has put the region on course to become a primary event destination. I've had a small part in making sure all the guidance in this expansive toolkit is on the new VisitBritain industry website. If you're looking to either start or further develop the accessibility in your tourism business, definitely check it out! And I think there's lots of useful tips in there even if you're not in the tourism industry!
Last night we proudly gathered with key partners celebrate the launch of our groundbreaking Accessible and Inclusive Tourism Toolkit for Businesses. Guests also discussed how we can collectively champion accessibility in tourism for everyone. The event featured insightful contributions from esteemed keynote speakers—Ross Calladine, Robin Sheppard, and Emily Rose Yates, NRAC Consultant of Mima. Their impassioned talks delved into the genesis of the toolkit, its crucial role in shaping the future of inclusive tourism in England, and the positive ripple effects it promises to bring. Crafted in collaboration with over 30 leading disability charities, tourism, and hospitality trade associations, the toolkit has received the backing of influential MPs Sir John Whittingdale and Tom Pursglove. This toolkit stands as a testament to unity and progress. It doesn't just aim to be a resource; it aspires to be the foremost guide for the tourism industry, empowering businesses to embrace accessibility and ensure that the joy and relaxation of a holiday are accessible to everyone. Our Head of Business Support, Ross Calladine, emphasised, “The success of this toolkit hinges not only on the richness of its content but on the industry's embrace of its guidance. We are now calling for champions to join us in making it the go-to resource for tourism businesses, regardless of their size or shape, across England.” Let's embark on this trans-formative journey together! #AccessibleTourism #Accessforall #IDPWD #IDPWD2023 https://rb.gy/1cu8ay
