The NPC conference is the key point meeting for the nuclear chemistry and radiochemistry international community. The 2023 edition from September 25 to 28, 2023 in Antibes – Juan les Pins (France) will allow them to meet face to face again. NPC 2023, 22nd edition of the International Conference on Water Chemistry of Nuclear Reactor Systems (PWR, BWR, PHWR, VVER, other advanced reactors as SMR…) will focus on the many topics : Topics include: Safety, materials’ integrity, maintenance and duration of operation, radiation field management, advanced reactors, environment preservation, improvements of monitoring and surveillance. The aim is to share and transfer knowledge via oral and poster presentations covering operating experience, scientific studies and future trends. MSRs are the next generation of Nuclear Reactors. Safety is inherently built in to the process due to the ability to simply allow the molten salts to cool in the event of loss of power. 🚨 RTE 3rd call is OPEN! 🚨 The final Rapid Turnaround Experiment (RTE) call for fiscal year 2024 is now open! ⚛ The RTE award process offers an avenue for researchers to perform irradiation effects studies of limited scope on nuclear fuels and materials of interest utilizing NSUF facilities. Completion of RTE projects is expected within 9 months of the award. Prospective researchers are strongly encouraged to request samples from the NSUF Nuclear Fuels and Materials Library. RTE proposals are typically solicited and awarded three times per year. They are reviewed and evaluated for technical merit, relevancy and feasibility. The number of awards is dependent on the availability of funding. Proposals must support the Office of Nuclear Energy, U.S. Department of Energy mission. On June 19th, Dr. Yunfei Zhao and Joseph O'Leary, showcased their cutting-edge research at the 2024 Advanced Reactor Safety Conference, held as part of the American Nuclear Society (ANS) Annual Meeting. Dr. Zhao presented a paper titled "Reducing the Maintenance Cost of Advanced Nuclear Reactors under Risk Constraints through Condition Monitoring, Probabilistic Risk Assessment, and Maintenance Optimization" at the 2024 Advanced Reactor Safety Conference, which was embedded within the 2024 ANS Annual Conference. The paper introduces a new method for nuclear system maintenance optimization that integrates the Markov decision process with probabilistic risk assessment. The method has the potential of greatly reducing the operation and maintenance cost of advanced reactors while ensuring that relevant safety requirements are met. Joe presented his paper entitled "Improving the Efficiency of Dynamic Probabilistic Risk Assessment with Monte Carlo Tree Search and Importance Sampling" at the 2024 Advanced Reactor Safety Conference embedded in the American Nuclear Society Annual meeting. His paper introduces a new sampling methodology for dynamic probabilistic risk assessment which reduces its computational cost. Indonesia has 3 nuclear research reactors

Since the Manhattan Project days, ORNL has been a leader in #nuclear research. That legacy continues, including within the #nonproliferation space where researchers are dedicated to ensuring nuclear materials are used safely, securely, and peacefully. Andrew Conant, Ph.D., nuclear nonproliferation researcher, is partnering with experts at other #DOE #NationalLabs to run checks on #nuclearreactor #isotopes. By essentially retracing the footsteps of these isotopes, researchers can help discover the intent for the nuclear material — fuel or, possibly, weapons.
