#NationalFireNews: July 9, 2024. Currently, 69 large active wildfires are being managed nationwide, and have burned 612,376 acres. Of these, 26 wildfires are being managed under full suppression strategies. More than 10,500 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to incidents across the country. Evacuation orders are in effect for residents near the #LakeFire, #VistaFire, #ShellyFire and #BasinFire in #California, the #SilverKingFire in Utah, the #PioneerFire in Washington, and the #PiusFire in Arizona. During this #FireYear2024, 23,405 wildfires have burned 2,817,728 acres in the United States. About 93% of these wildfires were caused by people and 2.1 million acres were burned. This compares to nearly 1,300 wildfires ignited by lightning that burned more than 686,000 acres. States with the most human-caused wildfires include California, Georgia, Florida, Texas and Missouri.
