Have you heard about the „Black Box“ for cars? According to an EU regulation, an Event Data Recorder (EDR) must be installed in every newly registered passenger car and commercial vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes from July 2024. The EDR will record data like vehicle speed, braking behavior, vehicle position and the activity of safety systems such as airbags. To comply with data protection laws this data is not stored permanently, but only saved in the event of an accident. It may be used to simplify accident reconstruction.
