Approximately 400 tonnes of cannabis is consumed in Australia annually. Just 45 tonnes (approximately 12%) is legal medical cannabis. It's estimated that 355 tonnes of cannabis is consumed illegally. Use of medical cannabis grew by 70% in 2023. 54% of Australians support decriminalising cannabis for personal use. Just some of the insights from a recent piece of research from Elevetix Global Cannabis Research. It has been really fulfilling to have supported the growth of the Australian medicinal cannabis industry at Birchal and helping them tell stories, build communities and raise capital through the CSF regime. Moving more consumption to a regulated framework is an immensely positive trend, with many parallels to our own ambition to encourage the growth of regulated offers of securities in Australia. Lots of great sessions at this year’s summit, with several themes that keep popping up through most of them. One such theme is the ever-growing need for (and pace of) #outsourcing and technology modernization. Whether #ai, automation, or moving to SaaS services, many funds and service providers here are aligned on taking manual risk and expense out of their operations. Also some passionate discussion about the future of excel in operations (spoiler: not much of one)!
