Dive deeper into the faces of Santacruz! We are excited to share with you an interview with Silverio Reséndiz Rojo from our Zimapán mine:
What position do you hold and how many years have you been in the mining industry?
I am currently a Scooptram Operator, and I have been a miner for 21 years.
How did you start your career in mining?
When I came in, I was very new to the industry. I came in as a general assistant, and I worked on a bulldozer or doing groundworks. I always saw the equipment and it was my dream to be able to drive them one day.
What difficulties have you faced?
The most difficult thing was how to follow behind or load a truck. Now that I have experience, it is something I have mastered. I load trucks, I make forms and other things.
Why is the position you hold important?
If there are no operators there is no mineralized material to the plant. The driller would not be able to drill if we did not follow behind or make schedules, our work is very important.
What is a day like at your job?
First I receive my plan for the day and they take me to where the equipment is. We must check the equipment so that the brakes, the oil, and the diesel do not fail. Once I have checked everything, we go to the areas that our plan says: where we are going to stay behind, load trucks that go to the plant, etc.
What advice would you give to your colleagues?
Mining is challenging, but one must work hard and take good care of yourself. I would always advise that.
What motivates you to continue putting effort into your work?
My motivation is always my family to help them move forward and to be able to provide them with a livelihood. Here at the mine, they give me recognition and they are proud of me. They tell me to take care of myself so that we can move forward and they can continue to see me every day.
