As Metropolitan Group (MG/ISMG) begins our 36th year, we are more committed than ever to supporting and working in partnership with change agents to respond to truly global challenges, and to directly impact and drive needed changes on issues that require collective action and significant shifts in norms and public will. Across sectors and across geographies the need to create proactive narratives, social expectations, and systemic changes that center fairness, freedom, equity, justice, and peace is profound. We all need solutions we can work toward while we also work to effectively counter rising authoritarianism, hyperpolarization, the use of fear and othering, and attacks on information integrity. We see this combined work of building up just solutions while robustly pushing back on injustice in the work of our clients and the communities they serve every day. This 35th annual letter to stakeholders shares updates on our team and stories of our clients’ work and impact. As we begin our 36th year of social impact work, we are focused and committed to the shared mission of advancing public health, environmental sustainability, and social justice. We are excited to collaborate with you on this journey. https://lnkd.in/g5tD6jHW

New programme alert! We're thrilled to launch our brand-new "Inclusive and Participatory Methods for Policy Making" programme this July. Inclusivity can sometimes take a back seat in policy discussions, with more immediate concerns such as economic stability, national security, and geopolitical interests taking centre stage. But a lack of emphasis on inclusivity is short-sighted: it can lead to policies that are ineffective, discriminatory, or even harmful to marginalised populations, exacerbating social exclusion and widening existing divides. We're hoping to change that by helping policymakers explore strategies and frameworks to incorporate inclusivity into policy formulation. We'll go through participatory methods and techniques that enhance stakeholder engagement and encourage community participation, and help you navigate real-world case studies of inclusive policymaking in action. Under the guidance of expert facilitators, participants will also take on a personalised project that will enable them to address specific challenges related to inclusivity in policymaking using theoretical and practical learnings from the programme. We hope you'll walk this new path with us. Check out the programme here: https://lnkd.in/gje5WZwt

Koi Tū: The Centre for Informed Futures recently released a discussion paper on the cohesiveness of Aotearoa New Zealand society. It paints a picture of increased polarisation stemming from a range of stresses. The paper Addressing the challenges to social cohesion says we need to pay more attention to strengthening both institutional and social trust and addressing those factors that might weaken them. Although New Zealand has traditionally been perceived as a highly cohesive, high-trust society with a healthy democracy, many factors are undermining trust and contributing to rising anxiety and concern among some sections of our society. Awareness of the causes and effects is vital, as is taking steps to preserve or enhance our cohesiveness and resilience. Institutional and social trust are both needed for a democratic society to be resilient and cohesive. A key question will be whether fractious politics and the declining trust in core institutions, including the government and media, continue to test the level of trust and engagement by individuals and communities in the coming general election. In this fireside chat, Sir Peter Gluckman and Paul Spoonley will discuss the factors that are potentially threatening to Aotearoa New Zealand society’s resilience, as well as a range of actions that focus on enhancing social trust and social cohesion. The latter raises questions about how our democracy should evolve, seeking a political accord to improve parliamentary processes and political discourse, and whether new institutions and innovative approaches are needed. This kōrero will be moderated by Hema Sridhar, Strategic Adviser (Technological Futures) at Koi Tū and co-author on the discussion paper. To register for the webinar: Thursday 31 August, 6.30pm. https://lnkd.in/gfPzYdjJ
