I cannot understate the value of a good editor when it comes to making good content. I know I've posted it before, but this bears repeating early and often. Recently, I've been fortunate to start with a new client whose editing is absolutely top-notch. It has been such a rewarding and collaborative experience, and every single thing I write is better for it. The core of what has blown me away with this particular system is how organized, straightforward and honest communication is. There's a place for everything and time to speak over every point. No question has been too small, especially where the details of the product are concerned. We've improved pieces by an order of magnitude by discussing a small flag during research that turns into a crucial anchor for the piece. My effort level is not higher for this client vs any other –– I treat every task the same and try to produce the absolute best I can no matter what the circumstances. But the circumstances make a big difference –– huge. Hire good editors = make better content.

The Downfall of Editors: Why We Need to Stop Bidding for 100 Rupees Per Reel Recently, I saw a LinkedIn post from a hiring manager who was looking for a reel video editor. They said they needed 6 reels per week and would pay 100-150 rupees per reel. I was shocked to see how many editors commented on the post, saying they were interested and would do the job for that price. This is a trend that I've been seeing for a while now: editors are bidding for incredibly low prices, which is driving down the market value of our work. I understand that it can be difficult to find clients and make a living as an editor, but bidding for 100 rupees per reel is not the answer. This is a disrespectful price point, and it devalues the skills and experience of editors. What we need to do is stop bidding for these low prices and start charging what we deserve. We need to value ourselves and our work. One way to do this is to set different price points for different levels of experience and skill. For example, a beginner editor might charge 500 rupees per reel, while an experienced editor might charge 2000 rupees per reel. Another way to value ourselves is to specialize. For example, you could specialize in editing reels for a specific industry, such as fashion or beauty. This will make you more valuable to potential clients and allow you to charge higher prices. Finally, we need to start educating clients about the value of our work. Many clients don't realize how much time and effort goes into editing a reel. We need to explain to them the process and why it's important to invest in a good editor. If we all work together to value ourselves and our work, we can start to turn the tide and create a more sustainable market for editors. I encourage all editors to stop bidding for 100 rupees per reel. Value yourselves and your work. Set different price points for different levels of experience and skill. Specialize in a particular industry. Educate clients about the value of your work. Together, we can create a better future for editors. #editors #videoediting #freelanceeditors #rates #pricing #valueyourself
