Steve Watson of Stack Magazines has just dropped a super smart essay, "The Real Death of Print," on the history and future of magazine publishing. It's as good a history of magazines as I've seen and a very perceptive look at their current status and potential future. He also does a great job placing independent magazine publishing into this timeline. There's plenty to like, and of course, plenty to quibble with, but overall this is essential reading for anyone involved in magazine making.
