Many people think #hospice is for the final days of someone’s life which, of course, it is. However, it is available six months or sometimes even longer before a person passes away. They provide support, supplies, guidance, counsel, and more for the patient and #caregivers. Their service is invaluable and the comment we hear most often is “I wish we knew what they did sooner.” #caregiving #caregiversupport #dementia #caregivingjourney #longtermcare #eldercare #disabilitycare #healthcare #endoflifecare #endoflifeplanning #endoflife
One year ago today, President Carter entered hospice care. This is notable for a few reasons: -Former President Jimmy Carter is the longest living U.S. President and the first known to utilize hospice care. -While in office, the Carter administration tested hospice care as a model, which led to the Medicare Hospice Benefit we know today. -The average Length of Stay for Medicare patients in 2021 was 92 days, and the median was 17. -In 2021, 6% of hospice patients received care for 365 days or more. -President Carter is receiving the same hospice care that is available to all Americans under the Medicare Hospice Benefit. Thank you, President Carter for lighting the way for all of us. https://lnkd.in/eCQZ4f3b

If you want something in the world to improve, start doing better; even if you must invent it, set the standard. Once it's set, dedicate the rest of your life and work with others to build it up and keep improving it. "What you sow into the lives of others is the harvest you will reap tomorrow." Anonymous. Carrie Hyde, MD, thanks for sharing the original post. The true meaning of life is to plant trees under whose shade you do not expect to sit. ~ Nelson Henderson. Someone's sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree long ago. ~ Warren Buffett. The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now. ~Chinese Proverb. Even if I knew the world would go to pieces tomorrow, I would still plant my apple tree. ~Martin Luther. The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson. On the last day of the world, I would want to plant a tree. ~W.S. Merwin "While in office, the Carter administration tested hospice care as a model, which led to the Medicare Hospice Benefit we know today. President Carter receives the same hospice care available to all Americans under the Medicare Hospice Benefit". ~ The Hospices Action Network. You reap what you sow. What you work for is what you will get. Do not expect to get success if you do not do what needs to be done. You reap what you sow: Life is like a boomerang. Our thoughts, deeds, and words return to us sooner or later with astounding accuracy. ~Grant M. Bright. You reap what you sow, not something else but that. An act of love makes the soul more loving. A deed of humbleness deepens humbleness. The thing reaped is the very thing sown, multiplied a hundredfold. You have sown a seed of life; you reap life everlasting. ~ Frederick William Robertson Whatever you do today is directly proportional to what will happen tomorrow. So, sow what you reap. ~ Anonymous The person who sows generously will also reap generously. ~Anonymous #leadershipexcellence #integrity #compassion #kindness #healthcareadvancement #medicaid #medicare #medicareadvantage The moral of this post: Plant the trees. If you plant well, you will reap generously.

Suggestion: Go to Mayo Clinic in Phoenix and get their full body evaluation. It takes a couple of days but well worth it. Mayo found a couple of health maintenance items on me that I didn't know I had until they found them. Mayo is not big on prescription meds so you don't worry about them pushing pills on you. Follow their advice to get another 70+ spins around the sun. I'm only 71 and want to get in another 30+ spins around the sun. Also suggest the U.S. Army daily life plan. Three items: (1) Sleep - 8 hours, (2) Activity - physical/mental exercise, (3) balanced-wholesome nutrition. Get to Mayo for a in-depth physical check of your systems. You will be glad you did. Stay healthy and well. Your family needs you.
What do you make of it when you wake up and you can’t see straight, walk straight, or talk straight? I found out in the ER of St George hospital at 8:00am yesterday when I had a stroke. My wife and I were taking a few days off to enjoy some runs and celebrate our tenth anniversary. But God had different plans. When you’re in great shape but have a stroke at 29 years old, the hospital staff comes out to see you. Every test under the sun. 10/10 do not recommend. By night time, I was feeling better and could stand up, so I tackled 15 mins of squats and lunges, just to say I did. The streak continues at 914 days and counting. So thankful for the crazy support and encouragement from my wife and family, from you, and the in-person visit from Garret Brent and Alexa Brent this morning. Just got out and headed to the airport to catch a flight home. Can’t wait to hug my kids. Recovery will be a weeks-long process, but I’m with it. And so thankful. God is good!

Equipping managers with evidence-based team development strategies | Champion of interprofessional collaboration | Patient Advocate | Let's build high performing teams together!
I am excited about my new role! Myself and Devin Nickol, a colleague from Nebraska, are the Co-Convenors for the American Interprofessional Health Collaborative (AIHC). The AIHC community of practice recently reorganized its structure to embody a collaborative approach. Some changes in the structure included: ✔ Instead of using the term President, we are using Convenor. ✔ Instead of single individual leading the organization, we will work together with the Collaboration Hub. ✔ The Collaboration Hub includes representation from Collaboratives/Committees, community members, health professional students, and the National Center. ✔New processes will minimize traditional hierarchies that are barriers to transformation and efficient work. We are walking the collaboration talk with a vision of transforming health through interprofessional collaborations bridging practice and education. #collaboration #joinus #interprofessional
Congratulations Dr. Tina Patel Gunaldo, PhD, DPT, MHS! We are proud of you! Tina is our inaugural Director for the Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice Office. She will co-lead the @American Interprofessional Health Collaborative (AIHC) over the next couple of years. Join us in congratulating Tina! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Two important pieces of legislation on the docket for this year's DOTH. HR 955/S 1849: Sustaining Outpatient Services Act seeks to redress the inequity in CMS reimbursement when a CR/PR program relocates off campus or opens a new facility off the grounds of the main hospital. HR 1406/S 3021: Sustainable Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Services in the Home Act seeks to make many of the waivers that CMS granted during the PHE permanent. These waivers allowed for the delivery of virtual CR/PR and for the daily supervising provider requirement to be met virtually. The last point is critical (no pun intended) for CAH in rural areas. AACVPR is sending the entire BOD to D.C. this year to impress upon Congress how important these bills are. Hope to see you there.

There are two important pieces of legislation on the docket for DOTH that can enhance and continue to propel Cardiac Rehab Programming. • HR 955/S 1849: Sustaining Outpatient Services Act seeks to redress the inequity in CMS reimbursement when a CR/PR program relocates off campus or opens a new facility off the grounds of the main hospital. • Your support is key.
