It's Mental Health Awareness Week! This week focuses on the powerful link between movement and well-being. Exercise has become a cornerstone of my own routine, and I wholeheartedly encourage everyone to find an activity they enjoy and that suits your abilities and fitness level. The science is clear: physical activity helps your body manage stress hormones like cortisol, leading to a calmer mood and reduced anxiety. So find something that gets you moving! #MoveForMentalHealth #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek

Last night’s panel on the intersection of mental health, communications and the media was full of insights from NAMI Chicago CEO Alexa James MS, LCSW and fellow mental health experts Mark Ishaug of Thresholds and Juan Carlos Linares of Association House of Chicago. Here are three key takeaways from the conversation: 1) There are things the Chicago media community is getting right when it comes to covering mental health, such as making an effort to lead with person-first language, but there’s more work to be done 2) When covering mental health, it’s important for the media to dig deep to understand the holistic picture and the “why” behind the story 3) Reducing stigma around mental health involves all of us working together — our stories are powerful #NAMIChicago #MentalHealthMatters

Mental Health Awareness Month, is observed annually in May🌍. This year, we are on a mission to address myths and misconceptions and educate children, adolescents and their communities about mental health and wellbeing Mental health is not merely the absence of illness but a continuum of emotional, psychological, and social well-being. Mental Health Awareness Month is a call to action, urging individuals and communities to break the silence, challenge stereotypes, and promote environments of empathy and support. This month, we continue to lead conversations around mental health, to share stories of resilience and recovery, and to advocate for accessible, equitable mental health care for all. Mental Health Awareness Month serves as a platform for education and empowerment. #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #adolescentmentalhealth #childmentalhealth
