TSL is a very impactful program to retain effective diverse teachers in high need schools. I reviewed the program in person in DC when it was then known as TIF and have so after now under TSL. Great to see the impact of TSL. It comes down to the powerful mechanicals to retain talent: pay as incentive and professional development- decades of research to show that it works. It seems even more urgent given teacher recruitment and retention needs of schools districts as they seek evidence-based grant interventions such as TSL.
Today, ED is announcing nearly $115 million to support 29 Teacher and School Leader (TSL) Incentive projects, bolstering ED’s commitment to a well-prepared, diverse, & sustainable educator workforce. https://lnkd.in/gy9_Yrju

The vision was set, the energy was high, and yet what was planned to take weeks was dragging on for months. There wasn't time and space to get aligned, learn from each other, and create the next best version of the work. This was the challenge Devin Vodicka faced while serving as Superintendent of Vista Unified School District and looking to lead learner-centered change across 30 schools. A different approach was needed. Queue the concept of Guiding Coalitions, inspired by John Kotter’s Dual Operating Systems. These coalitions were about creating a backbone for change, connecting the dots between varied initiatives and ensuring alignment with overarching goals. From there, change accelerated and the district began seeing the transformation it always knew was possible. The best part of Guiding Coalitions is their replicability and adaptability to each unique community. They are a cornerstone to the transformational work we do with schools and districts across the country that are ready to center learners by design. Learn more: https://hubs.ly/Q02DPtVt0

Last week, at our final convening of the East Side Alliance Transformation Network, our keynote speaker was Glenn Vander Zee, superintendent of the East Side Union High School District, which our partner districts feed into. Mr. Vander Zee focused on equity. He said, “When we talk about building equitable communities in the East Side, we mean doing four things: 1) Welcoming every student as they are – not ‘fix yourself, get yourself a certain way and then come to us.’ No – you’re you, and you’re welcome here. 2) Getting students’ areas of growth and strength to be known – by them and the adults. It could be academic, social emotional, or even your cool factor. 3) Responding positively – not reacting, not just responding, but positively responding. That means responding in the best interest of the student. 4) Helping students be full participants in their classroom, their schools, and their future. We want them to be full participants in Silicon Valley.” The superintendent’s inspirational remarks set the table for our partner schools’ presentations of the work they’re doing to help create bright futures for all students. Learn more about those presentations here in the days to come. [Image description: Graphic with a quote from Glenn Vander Zee, Superintendent of East Side Union High School District. The quote is: “The word ‘equity’ gets thrown around a lot, and sometimes it can lose its meaning. Let’s not let it.” The graphic also shows a headshot of Mr. Vander Zee.] #education #equity #EducationEquity #K12Education #EducationalLeadership #EducationForAll

I challenge any of my connections to build a business in a day! Defining a problem, ideating a solution, refining the solution, and building a go-to-market strategy, only then to pitch it to strangers … because thats what 150 students 14-15 y/o managed to brilliant success in our most recent volunteering day A couple of my favourites include: Reusable gum (cleaning teeth and the streets) Unbranded and discrete biodegradable period products A community based app around climate change and sustainability. To connect individuals, providing educational content and advice, and inbuilt ai to determine waste recyclability You may sense a theme ♻️🌍 If you are at PA message me to get involved in the next one ☝️ PA Consulting #innovation #enterpriseday #sustainability
Yesterday was an out-of-the-ordinary day for 135 year 10 students at North Cambridge Academy and... Lyn Scott Sean Ravenhall Catherine Eaton Felicity Rae Toby Charles from PA Consulting. We kicked off the Enterprise Day with a school assembly and then the challenge was on, with classes dreaming up and pitching a product or service that tackles an environmental real-world problem. With the help of the fantastic Ambassadors from PA Consulting, they covered everything from target markets and USP, to slogans, competitive advantage and pricing. From Henton et al. (2004): How can we put people and places on a shared pathway that celebrates all people to improved community health and living standards? And, how can we foster and cultivate strategies and practices that dynamically support people and place collaborating for "making the creative connection" for building a culture of lifelong learning?
