Senior Director Product Development - Veronica Beard | Fashion industry leader bridging the gap between creative and business needs to help brands develop and produce best-selling collections
Anyone who knows me knows I have A LOT of opinions about cashmere and how many brands use it. But I think this articulates it best: “If a brand’s selling a cashmere sweater for $60 or $70, something’s fundamentally wrong. Someone is losing out in that. And we’re all losing out in the end. Cashmere is way too cheap.” ✔ Raw Materials Teams: question where your fibers are coming from ✔ Product Developers: work with your factories to adjust washing/softening so these garments don't fall apart after a handful of wears (cashmere should feel a bit more like wool) ✔ Designers: lean into the creation of more season-less styles ✔ Sales Teams: educate the customer on WHY cashmere is a luxury fiber that's worth the $400+ (minimum) price tag https://lnkd.in/eEUqGaq8 #knitwear #sustainabledesign #fashionindustry #fashiondesign #luxurygoods

Are you familiar with the different properties of wool and cashmere? When choosing the perfect material for your garment, it's important to understand the difference between the two.💛 🐑Wool is a natural fiber from sheep, while cashmere comes from the soft undercoat of cashmere goats. Both materials are known for their warmth, softness, and durability, but there are some key differences to consider when choosing between them. 🐑Wool is a versatile fabric with excellent insulating and moisture-wicking properties, making it an excellent choice for all climates. It's also known for its elasticity and ability to hold its shape, making it ideal for everyday wear, including T-shirts. 🐐Cashmere, on the other hand, is prized for its luxurious feel and exceptional softness. It's also lighter and more insulating than wool, making it a popular choice for high-end clothing. While cashmere T-shirts may not be as durable as wool, their comfort and elegance are unmatched. When it comes to T-shirts, both wool and cashmere have their unique benefits. Wool tees are great for active people who want a breathable and durable option, while cashmere tees offer a more luxurious and indulgent experience.💙 🔖All in all, the choice between wool and cashmere ultimately comes down to personal preference and the specific quality requirements you require from your garments. Whether you choose versatile wool or luxurious cashmere, both materials are great options for creating high-quality T-shirts that are both comfortable and stylish. #woolTshirt #cashmereTshirt #intimites #GOTS #underwear

There is no other item of apparel that defines a man’s style quite like the shirt – they have been a staple of men’s wardrobes for as long as anyone can remember, and it is hard to imagine a world without them. The evolution of this iconic garment highlights not only changes in fashion, but also social trends, manufacturing techniques, and individual tastes. Men's dress shirts and formal shirts, the epitome of refined elegance and style, have an enthralling history that spans centuries. The roots of the men's dress shirt can be traced back to the 16th century, where shirts were initially conceived as undergarments. Crafted from linen or wool, these early shirts were designed for practicality and were usually loose-fitting. They served as a foundational layer, protecting the wearer's more intricate outer garments. As time progressed, so did the role and design of these shirts, eventually transitioning from a hidden layer to a permanent fashion garment for men. Like most things that have stood the test of time, the shirt’s evolution was a slow and steady affair over time. At Esclot London we specialise in making Bespoke shirts, each one carefully created and monogrammed for you. We also have a vast range of ready to wear shirts, in distinctive styles, colours and fabrics to suit every look and occasion. #mensfashion #menswear #readytowear #tailoring #bespoketailoring #madetomeasure #suits #shirts #casualwear #lifestooshorttowearboring #esclotlondon www.esclotlondon.com 📍 12 Lime Street, London, EC3M 7AA 📍 73 New Bond Street, London, W1S 1RS 📞 0207 929 3444

Doesn’t it drive you nuts when someone waxes nostalgically about “the good old days”? If it really drives you nuts, then stop reading right here because the rest of this will not make you happy. In most corners of the textile world, I am the only one old enough to remember when there was a “garment district” in Chicago and many other big cities. Kansas City, St. Louis, Cleveland, Salt Lake City, Atlanta and so many others had some identifiable garment district. I also lived in New York and worked in the garment district during the last gasp of the garment district. Today, no cities outside of New York and Los Angeles have a truly identifiable garment district and those two mentioned here have significant difficulties. I grew up in the coat business. My family produced wool coats and more. These garments were all made in the Chicago area throughout most of the 20th Century. We made moderately priced garments. In 1973, our wool pant coats moved over the $30.00 mark. My Uncle’s general opinion was that this marked the end of the wool coat business. In a way, he was right. He just missed it by 50 years. With an enormous tip of the cap to a couple of indie designers (like the amazing “Coat Check” in Chicago) making GORGEOUS women’s coats, there are no (or incredibly few) domestically made coats in big box inventories including all the department stores and discounters and specialty store chains. There are no “Seventh Avenue” domestic makers that I know of. Back in the day, there were over 250 coat companies in 500 and 512 Seventh Ave. In just two buildings! A few wool coats were made “offshore” in say the 1970’s and into the 1980’s. Quality was usually inferior though there was were nice garments coming out of the Dominican Republic in the latter part of the 1980’s. That brings us back to today. Now if you are an indie designer and you want to make stylish dresses, sportswear or activewear, you generally have a pretty decent selection of fabrics that are stocked in North America. If you want to produce fine wool coats, you are in deep doo doo. You will wander the earth looking for fabric. Most of the mass-produced fabric for outerwear is of a quality that might have been unacceptable a generation ago. What’s a designer to do? You have three options. #1 Scour the Earth for fine wool plush, broadcloth, Melton and other traditional coatings. Is there such a thing as a Calvary Twill in today’s world? Get ready for disappointment. #2 Make a piece is s&^t out of some of the woolens that are available without much of an effort. #3 Find “alternative” fabrications that can work for you. Looking for performance fabrics that might cross over to fashion? See us in St. Louis on June 7 and 8. We will be in Indianapolis and Cincinnati in July so look here for more info. We show our wide array of fabrications at all of these stops so don’t miss us on our Midwestern tour!
