Team WORTHI brought the house down with our partners at The Walt Disney Company to celebrate Descendants: The Rise of Red and one of its stars, Dara Renee.
Dara Renee participated in multiple press interviews and graced several panels, including "Heart & Soul Stage: LIVE Ford Sirius XM," "Multi-Hyphenate Mavens - Entertainers of Disney Entertainment Television," and "The Power of Joy: Influencer Brunch - Celebrating 30 Years of Disney's The Lion King." Parents and children alike frequently thanked Dara for bringing a "fresh perspective" to the visual role of a villain and stated that they felt both “represented” and “happy” to see her don a natural hairstyle in her role as "Ulyana" and during her run at Essence Fest.
Be sure to check out Descendants: The Rise of Red when it hits Disney+ July 12~

This video is a powerful reminder of why diversity is relevant and will always matter. A few years back, my former Disney colleagues shared their stories, emphasizing the importance of ongoing conversations and the need for change. Watch the video here: https://lnkd.in/gQ3iguq7. Behind the Scenes with Deborah--Endgame - Disney
I've been updating links and copy for my sheet music downloads--100+, & realized this is a part of my intellectual property that will someday go to our kids. I'm planning on working many more years, but sometimes there are unforeseen circumstances. This realization acted as a prompt to make sure all my content is organized & easy to access. It's never too early to think about this! Click here for current & free content: https://bit.ly/DJWorks
Also, after performing engagements for the Disney organization for over 20 years, they are now making me an "employee" or "cast member." My first response was, "Really-now?" But it's a good reminder that those of us who are a bit more "seasoned" in our work have plenty of value as we are experienced and have abilities that are marketable & not easily replicated.

I love theme parks. I especially love Disney. For me, it's not about the rides in and of themselves. As I walk through the breezeway, under the railroad, and onto Main Street, USA, I am walking through a cross dissolve or a dip to black in film, and I leave the cares and stresses of my every day life and I enter into the world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy -- I become part of the endless stories being told inside of the parks.
I could go on for hours about the design practices within these parks, instead I wanted to share this interview I found today with two #DisneyLegends, Bob Gurr and Tony Baxter.
I'm oversimplifying, but the Disney parks simply would not be what they are without the contributions of these two men. The combined creative genius on display in this interview is simply out of this world. To hear Bob and Tony chat about dreaming big and staying young at heart, designing from the heart in service of the story -- it brought a fine mist to my eyes. These men knew, worked with, and were mentored by Walt himself, and the obvious joy and love for the art of Imagineering is on full display.
Hearing Tony's story about how Walt was able to create his own Matterhorn mountain is exactly why I love these parks. It's not that Walt just had an idea for something, but instead it's the realization of so many disciplines -- art, design, engineering, to name a few -- everyone working together to bring this ludicrous idea -- build me a mountain!! -- into reality.
To watch them, towards the end of the interview, blue sky some solutions to current problems facing Disney attractions was amazing. The problem: mobility devices are slowing down the loading process of The Haunted Mansion, leading to longer wait times for guests, and a bad show for guests currently on the ride. To watch how effortlessly they came up with solutions that were elegant in their simplicity showed a true command for their fields.
I loved hearing them talk about how you have to create from your heart first, and then let the head fill in the how. It boils down to, you can have extravagant dreams, but nothing is created in a vacuum. You need a team around you, and you need to trust your team members to do their jobs.
What a wonderful interview!

What’s one word that defines communication?
CLARITY.
Be clear so there are no misunderstandings when we leave each other.
No matter what area of life you are applying this to, you need to be clear.
At Disney, we’re extremely clear on the expectations we have for our cast members.
From executives, to anybody cleaning to rooms or the bathrooms, they are all clear on what is expected of them.
The most successful organizations are clear with all of their people.
If you want to learn how to increase the clarity in your organization, learn how at Cockerell Academy!
