People always ask… “why don’t you race anymore?” There’s a few reasons why I’ve stopped competing at the biggest races. The first is, as you start a race team, the focus needs to shift to helping others. Yes, you can still pass on valuable information learnt from being on track at the same time, but the people racing for you, NEED YOU! So I’d rather invest my time, knowledge and expertise to seeing these drivers excel and achieve personal bests rather than trying to bring home another trophy for myself that won’t mean as much as a kid winning their first. The second is the amount of time & dedication required to stay at the top & be competitive is next level. If you’re not pushing yourself, to test new things, engine development, kart setup, kart fitness, then there’s no point going racing just for the sake of racing. I’ve won races before, and it took a lot of effort. Simply put, I can’t invest the time into it now as my focus has shifted to helping others reach new heights. From time to time I still hop back in a kart to coach drivers, provide data & film Kart Class content so that more drivers worldwide can learn & be better. And the funny thing is, I get as much satisfaction seeing others achieve personal bests as I did when I won them myself. I’m basically in the kart driving with them.

Watching horse racing is always an exhilarating experience. It amazes me every time – the sheer power and strategy behind each race. Do you sprint ahead from the start, or do you bide your time in the back? The most thrilling races? Those where a horse starts in the back, then suddenly surges forward in the final stretch. They take the outside lane, sprinting towards a photo finish, and astonishingly, they win. The frontrunner, caught off guard, is left behind. In sales, consistency fuels growth. Many teams struggle with inconsistent growth, often blaming market cycles. However, a closer look reveals a pattern: activity dips just as results begin to improve. It's human nature – we briefly relax after tasting success, leading to a slowdown in results. It's like the leading jockey in the race, easing up as the finish line nears, only to be outpaced by someone who’s been steadily gaining ground. As we step into the next week, here is a thought to ponder: What daily activity can you commit to that will drive consistent sales growth throughout the month?

Sponsorship and Strategic Partnerships, 181 Solutions | Helping organizations form meaningful relationships | Former Naval Aviator
Why do driver or rider moves matter so much in racing? There are number of factors, but the short answer is sponsorship. Perhaps a little known fact to casual fans, but teams are not the only ones that receive sponsorship over the course of a race season. Drivers receive direct sponsorship as well. But why? Why would a brand, family or business need to sponsor a rider directly at all? Using F1 as the easiest example, it costs a young driver an obscene amount of money in order to chase the dream of getting into formula 1. I’ll break it down: -Karting: $300,000-400,000 over the course roughly 7 years, age 7-14. -Formula 4: $400,000 per season for 1-2 years. -Formula Regional: $400,000-$650,000 per season for 1-2 years. -Formula 3: $600,000-$1,000,000 per season -Formula 2: $2,000,000-$2,500,000 per season. Most families simply do not have that kind of funding for their son or daughter to make it into racing. So they MUST have sponsorship. And oftentimes relationships with sponsors follow a driver or rider throughout their career, and can equate to a significant sum. For example, Sergio Perez is backed by the eight richest man in the world supposedly worth $78.2 billion. That’s a hard for even a team like Red Bull to pass up. Now, factor in that each driver is unique in that they have their own branding, social media following, and fan base, and you have a recipe for teams to really sweating over a driver decision. So there you have it! That’s what makes the silly season so silly. And the next time you see a driver or rider swap, you’ll know that it went along with a serious amount of consideration.
