It's not all fame and fortune. Here's a peek behind the curtain. 👀 Incredible to see that musicians at the level of Boy & Bear, G Flip and The Cat Empire are receiving funding for their professional development. Creative industries need continuous support as our industries change due to climate change (e.g. festivals being cancelled in line with extreme weather events) and tech advancement (e.g. Spotify monopolizing income streams for itself, not the artists it's leeching off + the seemingly inherent risk AI poses to the idea of creating things). I'm happy to see artists financially supported! But it also actively speaks to the state of the industry in Australia. If you're wondering what you can do to support creators in Australia: 🎟️ Go see live music (buy gig tickets in advance to let promoters know you're interested!) 👕 Buy their merch (with streaming reducing the income of musicians, they are forced to go on tour to make money. touring is expensive + venues take huge cuts of live shows, merch helps artists at least break even) 🥰 Share the love! tell your friends about the artist you're listening to. Word of mouth is a great way to recommend music and other arts.

In light of a challenging fundraising market, North American sponsors are seeking to broaden their geographical investor base. Europe is a logical first port of call, with a flexible and diverse pool of allocators familiar with a variety of fund structures, but how can sponsors successfully unlock this European capital amid shifting regulatory developments and balancing operational burden and cost factors? On April 23, join Latham’s Oliver Prakash-Jenkins and Clare Scott, ELVINGER US’s Nicolas Fermaud, FundRock’s Arnaud Gérard, CFA, and Apex Group Ltd’s Marc van Rijckevorsel for a discussion on recent distribution and structuring experiences, including where in Europe to raise capital, which investors to target, and types of structures to consider. 10 cohorts in, and the negotiations masterclass remains the most anticipated of our AAA programme events. 🚀 💡Here, the cohort puts their knowledge to the test and networks with their fellow cohort members by interacting with them one-on-one. 📑 Cohort members are required to read a case study and prepare to negotiate a deal either as a founder or investor prior to the masterclass. During the session, we divide them into small groups, wherein they negotiate the terms of the deal. 🫱🏾🫲🏾 After the negotiation, they score their agreement based on the qualities of the deal and whether they would do another deal with their counterpart. ⬇️ Here are some of the learnings shared during cohort 10's post-negotiation debrief. This cohort programme has been sponsored by the UK South Africa Tech Hub and Dutch Good Growth Fund (DGGF).

We were delighted to host a seminar in collaboration with Ogier on Cayman Islands and Luxembourg Parallel Funds: How to navigate structuring your next fund targeting European investors in this challenging fundraising environment’, featuring speakers Clare Chang, Femy Mouftaou, Anne-Gaelle Delabye, Kate Hodson and Derrick Chiu. In recent years, we’ve been seeing increased interest from Asian managers in combined Cayman Islands and Luxembourg vehicles when targeting both EU and Asian (and potentially U.S) investors. Our whitepaper discusses the nature and benefits of parallel fund structures, explore key considerations when opting for such a structure, and examine Cayman and Luxembourg as jurisdictions of choice for parallel funds. Great event yesterday for the launch of the Investment Fund for Scotland from British Business Bank. The funds are a very welcome addition to the incredible support already in place for businesses in Scotland, and it was great to see many partners committed to helping businesses and to hear the panel discussion from Hugh Lightbody, Dr Poonam Malik, MBA, FRSE FRSB, Nicola Anderson and Mark Logan. We look forward to working closely with the three Fund Managers, DSL Business Finance Ltd, The FSE Group, and Maven Capital Partners, to help businesses across the whole of Scotland to find the funding and support they need, and working together with all the business support partners to help grow and strengthen the Scottish economy.
