DATA RELEASE: OVERCOMING CHALLENGES ASSOCIATED WITH MANAGEMENT OF PERINEAL PEDIATRIC WOUNDS On average, 3.9 million pediatric surgeries are performed annually in the US, and 5% of these surgical wounds develop infections or other wound complications, resulting in poor wound healing, and increased pain, hospital stay and treatment costs. In a pediatric case series by Mark Chaet, MD, FACS, FAAP, Edgar T. Sosa, DO, and Hanna Leteef, BS from Florida State University College of Medicine, presented at the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC) Spring 2023 meeting, three patients, aged five months to 18 years, with difficult-to-dress perineal wounds with post-operative complications were treated with Altrazeal. Altrazeal’s powder form enabled ease of application in difficult-to-dress areas, and facilitated wound closure with less than expected healing times.
