In today's immediate-gratification and overnight-success world, this article's message is important: A return on a good, moral/ethical #business approach doesn't always get returns right away. Patience counts. The question, of course, is how to develop that #patience. 👉 Seek out these types of examples. If you don't see people succeeding for the long haul, you're less likely to believe you're on the right path and more likely to quit. 👉 Consider the mission of the #business every day. Don't let yourself get so wrapped up in the operations that you forget why you're operating. It's the mission that pushes you through the crap (which, by the way, will happen). 👉 Participate in other activities that take some planning and time. Take a class. Do hiking. Watch a sunrise with your coffee or take a picture of your dog every day for a month. The point is to learn in smaller areas that waiting and persisting doesn't kill you, and to repeatedly expose yourself to the positive benefits of taking time. 👉 Find mentors who can hold you accountable for the long game. In the midst of a hair transformation, a casual conversation triggered an astonishing opportunity – my photographs had impressed someone influential the day before! When life pitches you a surprise, the best response is to aim for the stars. So, there I was, boldly embracing my identity as an artist, armed with a stylish photography website. Enter stage right, the CMR Group - the proud owners of Olive Garden and Capitol Grill. A serendipitous encounter led to an invitation to join their mission in rural Mexico – a three-and-a-half-hour journey away from the bustling city. The objective? To inject vitality into a local community by teaching them how to grow organic vegetables. But our ambitions stretched beyond just food; we were orchestrating a full-blown sustainability festival. The highlight? A community recipe competition with a celebrity chef as the judge. The triumphant dish would not only secure a coveted spot in a restaurant but would also feature on chic bags. The profits? Channeled straight back to the community. The company was thrilled, and witnessing the ripple of joy spreading was reward enough for all our efforts. Fast forward a bit, and the Founder Institute handed me the co-director baton for the East Bay. Balancing these roles led to the birth of NextGen Chef. Guiding others to launch their businesses felt like destiny had come knocking. On a trip to Mexico City, my life took an unexpected turn.  While getting a hair makeover, a chance conversation led to a new opportunity. The previous day, my photography had impressed someone.  When opportunity knocks, you don't ignore, you seize it. I found myself affirming my identity as an artist with a photography website. Enter the CMR Group, owners of big brands like Olive Garden and Capitol Grill. An accidental meeting led to an invitation to join them on a mission three and a half hours from the city, in rural Mexico.  The goal was to equip the local community with resources and education to grow organic vegetables. This was not just about food, but about creating a sustainable cycle. A brainwave led to the idea of a community recipe contest with a top chef as the judge.  The winning recipe would be featured in a restaurant and printed on bags, with proceeds going back to the community.  The company loved the idea, and the happiness it brought the community made the effort worthwhile. Later, the Founder Institute offered me the role of co-director in the East Bay.  As I embraced these responsibilities, the idea for NextGen Chef emerged.  Guiding others to launch their businesses felt like a calling, leading to the birth of NextGen Chef.  This venture symbolizes my dedication to fostering innovation, empowering entrepreneurs, and transforming communities through the shared love of better-for-you and better-for-the-planet-food.
