Did you know that South Africa is currently the sixth most targeted country for cyberattacks, costing the economy R2.2bn annually? Unfortunately, only 19% of local companies are adequately prepared for these threats. Those are just some of the insights that MakwaIT's Reabetswe Motsamai shares with us. She highlights that all businesses are targets of cybercriminals and bad actors. This is despite the view held by many of the country’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that their ventures are too small or unimportant to be targeted by cybercriminals. --------- #BDSpotlight PODCAST | Digital protections for SA’s small business Reabetswe Motsamai, marketing and communications manager at MakwaIT, joins us Motsamai outlines the economic effects of SA’s high cyber exposure; why SMEs are vulnerable to cyber threats and the resulting operational effects; and how business owners can implement proactive cybersecurity measures. South African Businesses Underprepared for Cyberattacks: FSACCI Hosts Crucial Event A recent Cisco survey reveals a glaring vulnerability in South Africa's business landscape: cybersecurity preparedness. At the same time, 73% of surveyed companies anticipate a cyberattack within the next two years, and a mere 5% boast "mature" defences. This significant disconnect between perception and reality underscores the urgency for businesses to strengthen their cybersecurity posture. French South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry recognises the gravity of the situation for its members and the broader business community. It will host the "Battling the Shadows of Cyber Criminality" event on Tuesday, May 7th, 2024, from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM with our cybercrime expert at the French Embassy in South Africa. Data Security Consultant | Data Protection & Privacy Advisor | Direct Message Now for valuable expertise
😀 Today, I heard interesting insights about how important is to protect our data from cyber-attacks, especially in the future because this will be one of the big challenges for all of us, even if we are a simple individual or a major company. 🔔 A quantifiable detail about this subject is in the podcast about the personal data of Cristina Vannini-Goodchild (C-DPO, CIPP/E, ITILv4) who discussed with an expert in cyber security the upward trend of the mentioned threat in the future, knowing that, in 2020, the UK economy lost about 21 billion pounds and that sum increased with 30% at the end of 2023. 💡 If this happened in the UK where London is one of the biggest financial centers of the world with tailored cyber security services, what can we say about other countries, for example, Romania? 📞 Is it an interesting subject for your podcast, Cristina Vannini-Goodchild (C-DPO, CIPP/E, ITILv4)?
