🎉 For our next Staff Spotlight, we've asked @GemmaBolton-Hale to answer some questions on her work as Gender Equality Staff Network Lead, and share her thoughts on equality in time for #Internationalmen'sday 👨👨👦 💙 Gemma is RE and PSHE curriculum leader at @OasisAcademyOldham, and takes on her Gender Equality Role for 1 day a week. The staff network exists to discuss and review matters such as menopause awareness, gender pay parity, men's mental health, and more. 🤔 What excites you most about your role? 💡 "It’s so exciting to be part of real change. We have already introduced a menopause policy and we recognised World Menopause Day across the trust for the first time on October 18th. This opened up some really empowering conversations! Then we’ll be having a whole trust celebration of International Men’s Day on the 19th- again in the hope that this will open up dialogue about issues that affect men. I love being able to lead on such matters and I’m excited to see this continue and grow." 🤔 In your view, what are some of the biggest inequalities you've seen in your role? 💡 "Inequalities vary depending on gender. For example, we have less women than men in top levels of Trust leadership, but then we have less men than women in our primary academies. We have much less men working in SEND support roles or literacy roles where our boys need good male role models and I’d really like to see this change. We see less women over the age of 55 than men of that age, yet our trust is over 70% majority female employees. Whatever the imbalance, we need to work together to find ways to remove barriers and have an equal representation of all genders in all levels, paid fairly and valued equally." Thank you, Gemma, for sharing your insights with us! 😍 Have a happy International Men's day everyone - keep looking out for each other, checking on each other's wellbeing, and reading up on gender-based inequalities! 👨👨👦 🙏

Excited to have spoken at Morgan Coakle today about a crucial yet often overlooked topic: Menopause. It was truly enlightening to discuss how menopause will be experienced differently by every woman, and how that can impact them in a professional setting. Why sessions like this are important: 1. Awareness and Empowerment: Empowering individuals and organizations with knowledge about menopause can lead to better support structures and policies. 2. Inclusivity and Equality: Recognising menopause as a workplace issue promotes inclusivity and supports gender equality initiatives. 3. Policy Recommendations: Discussing actionable steps for implementing menopause-friendly policies that benefit employees at all stages of their careers. Thank you to Morgan Coakle for prioritising this conversation and for the men who were brave enough to join. Let's continue to drive meaningful change and create environments where every woman feels valued and supported, regardless of life stage. #MenopauseAwareness #InclusiveWorkplaces #DiversityandInclusion #GenderEquality #Empowerment

This year's theme from the United Nations is: Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress. Women’s economic empowerment is central to a gender equal world. When women are given equal opportunities to earn, learn and lead – communities and organisations thrive. We must ensure women and girls are given equal opportunity to build their capabilities and strengthen their capacity to learn, earn and lead. We suggest you bring International Women's Day to your workplace by... 🟣 Running campaigns and events that showcase your gender equality policies and programs, and help your leaders and teams have meaningful conversations about gender equality and women's empowerment. We provide our members with a toolkit full of resources to include menopause in the workplace in these campaigns. 🟣 Harnessing the power of shared stories. Whether it’s a senior leader in your organisation, someone who’s benefited from your menopause activities, an ally, or a combination. When others share their stories, it helps people understand ‘they’re not alone,’ ‘it’s not just me,’ or that they CAN talk about menopause and ask for help if they need it. If you would like more help or resources for your colleagues, send us a DM to learn how you can become a menopause friendly workplace and access the IWD Members Toolkit. #iwd2024 #countherin #investinwomen #accelerateprogess #makemenopausematter #equality #dei #workplaceequality
