Marine Industry Expert | Building Strong Networks, Streamlining Processes

The Interagency Working Group on Ocean and Coastal Mapping released its fifth annual report, detailing progress in mapping U.S. waters. The report shows a decrease in unmapped waters from 50% to 48% in the past year, largely thanks to regional initiatives like the Seascape Alaska and Lakebed 2030 campaigns. These efforts, supported by both traditional and new mapping methods, aim to meet the National Strategy for Mapping goals, yet currently only achieve one-third of the annual target. The report emphasizes the need for increased regional collaboration and data sharing to expedite the mapping process and enhance the economic and safety benefits derived from comprehensive ocean data. You can read the full details of the progress and the strategic goals on the NOAA's Office of Coast Survey website here: https://lnkd.in/eAt6XPQq
