The latest TUC Congress has heard calls from the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP) for greater investment in the public sector to protect staff from burnout. The CSP has warned that staff shortages, underfunding and heavy workloads are leading to rising levels of burnout. Burnout is a serious issue for healthcare professionals, leading to physical and mental exhaustion, feelings of helplessness and a sense of lack of control. The CSP is calling on the government to increase investment in the public sector, including healthcare, to ensure that staff have the resources they need to do their job and are not overworked. The CSP is urging the government to look at ways to support and invest in healthcare professionals to prevent burnout and its effects on staff wellbeing. The government must sit up and take notice, surely being proactive before they have no choice but to be reactive as the majority of healthcare staff are either on long-term sick leave or have left the NHS entirely is the answer. We must ensure that healthcare staff get the care and support they need. #PublicSector #ProtectStaff #PreventBurnout

#thoughtleadership - Joined up thinking? We are all aware of pressures on #nhs #health provision...& to be fair this indaba receives lots of airtime. Less obvious ... yet potentially a crucial link may be the crisis within local councils...& many being declared bankrupt or close to it. • #governance is a separate issue where sharing best practices is sure to be of benefit. Often blame is attributed one direction or another...& excuses & reframing to suit. IMHO, several measures might be deployed to mitigate issues & introduce consistency. • Independent regulation • Transparency across what provisions exist • Independent oversight • Broadcast lessons learned for mandatory adoption to improve services & assist management, #recruitment & retention of staff. 🤔 Filter out any & all bad apples removing any bad practices. Combined with other facets & deployed in concert would see huge improvements. These are essentially State provided #business yet without dots being joined up. Rather than looking at issues in isolation if at all... collate all issues from all stakeholders... review & discuss, then prioritise, plan, execute & monitor progress. ⚠️ Done effectively...the colloquy gets addressed & resolved over time once & for all! Why wouldn't any Govt want to say... we fixed x, y & z? The AHSP is a multi-year road map that is part of and funded through B.C.’s Health Human Resources (HHR) Strategy, which was announced on Sept. 29, 2022. The strategy outlines 70 actions that focus on four cornerstones: retain, redesign, recruit and train. The AHSP highlights 42 actions in the HHR Strategy and introduces 15 new initiatives, for a total of 57 actions, that will directly affect and benefit the allied health workforce across the province. Today's election result brings hope and an opportunity for change that will positively impact us all. Regardless of our political affiliations, it's clear that change was necessary. The new NHS Workforce Alliance RM6281 framework agreement also offers hope and a real opportunity for change. Several agencies are new to the framework, including KMI Recruitment, that bring fresh ideas to address the NHS staffing crisis. The gap between the actual need for staff and recruitment is larger than ever, a recurring seasonal challenge. As agency and trust engagement typically rise in August, I encourage Trusts to engage with new agencies on the framework. A really powerful presentation from Dr Linda Mellors, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Regis Group, at the Australasian College of Health Service Management (ACHSM) annual Congress. The messaging was clear, currently it’s like “the hunger games.” We as an entire healthcare system must ensure all sectors collaborate and work together to build, attract and retain our workforce. Personally, I believe governments need to reconsider piecemeal workforce policies and approaches which only apply to certain sectors. All sectors (public, private, aged care, community care) must have a seat at the table on all policy discussions regarding workforce. #workforce #achsm #ramsayhealthcare #peoplecaringforpeople #policy
