Making sense of AI, tech, and society

What monster created this keyboard layout? And what Design By Committee™ process was necessary to get it approved. Keyboards have a standardized layout. This is... just... unhinged.

You have to think what this is for: banking customers, and many of whom may not know how to type (like seniors), it actually makes sense to design this way to improve accessibility, and also, this is probably not intended for rapid typing but for passwords, so velocity is not that important. It’s very easy to get familiaritty bias. Think again.

That's pretty normal when a keyboard is to be used by users all around the world, i.e. in aviation ...

Each language has its own keyboard layout. Not all bank customers speak English. I'm with Gang Su on this one. You don't have to type an email, just a password.

Qui bono? Does anyone benefit from slowing down the usage or users making a typo? When I see something like this, I transmogrify immediately into a conspiracy theorist!

I’d prefer this over the QWERTZ or AZERTY keyboard (“kezboard”) though. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QWERTZ Turns out the keyboard order was originally optimized for Morse Code! https://scrippsnews.com/stories/why-aren-t-keyboards-in-alphabetical-order/

I agree with the design decision if it was made before smart phones and qwerty keyboards were not so ubiquitously used. That keyboard is not used for drafting letters. So it is okay. But in today’s world it is unnecessary simplification

This reminds me of a Blackberry phone. Not that the letters were alphabetical, but it still does remind of that.
