It’s been a while since I started my role at The University of Manchester as a Programme Director for Reliability Engineering and Asset Management (REAM)., but I wanted to share this update with everyone.

Another fantastic event at the UoM last night. Our Design 4 students showcased their projects to the wider student community and guests from industry. A huge thank to Andy Marson from Bentley Motors for delivering an insightful keynote presentation to launch our event. Special thank you to Bentley Motors for providing an amazing event exhibit with their Flying Spur Hybrid S. I am delighted to share with you the exciting news that from the 1st June 2024 I will be taking on the role of Programme Director (PD) for Reliability Engineering and Asset Management (REAM) at the University of Manchester. It’s been an incredible 20-year journey since attending my first module as a student. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank Professor Jyoti Sinha for his leadership of the programme in recent years and I look forward to working with him and the wider team going forward. I feel privileged to be given the opportunity to provide wider support for our current and future students. I will soon be reconnecting with our alumni in the hope that they can provide insights from industry to help us ensure our learning outcomes remain relevant.

Today I had the opportunity to meet and teach our industry based REAM MSc students. We covered a broad range of concepts relating to Reliability, Maintainability & Risk. We had great representation from sectors including: Nuclear Decommissioning, Oil & Gas, Defence, Mining, Food, and Pharma. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank them for sharing invaluable industry insights.

Congratulations to all our PGT & PGR students attending their graduation ceremony yesterday. It’s always a great opportunity to celebrate success and wish our students the very best for the future.

I am absolutely delighted to be back on campus at the University of Sydney. It’s always a great opportunity for sharing good teaching practice with the academic team. This week I will have the privilege to teach Design for Reliability to over 400 UG students. Thank you to Paul Briozzo in the Faculty of Engineering for hosting me.

Another incredibly proud moment for me at the University of Manchester. My fifteenth PhD student, in the same number of years, successfully passed yesterday. He had his viva and passed with minor corrections. Congratulations Matt Clay. You were a pleasure to supervise. Thank you to the External and Internal Examiners. Thank you to the Health and Safety Executive and the Thomas Ashton Institute for your support and sponsorship.

A long overdue lunchtime visit to Muscle Moose HQ in Manchester. My friend and his partner have built an incredibly successful business supplying some of Europe’s largest supermarket and health food chains. An inspiring journey. A great example of British Business at its best. Apparently it’s mandatory for all visitors to become the company mascot. #business #health #food Muscle Moose 🫎 👌

Another fantastic Design Showcase last night. We welcomed over 200 delegates and demonstrators to our new exhibition space. It’s been a pleasure to lead Mechanical Engineering Design 4 this year and support 25 groups of students developing solutions to address a wide range of global challenges.
