🎉 We are thrilled to be among the 23 new grantees announced by @SafeOnline, receiving a share of this USD 10 million funding round to drive impactful research and data projects for the prevention of online child sexual exploitation and abuse! Our award is for the adaptation and dissemination of Responsible Behavior with Younger Children (RBYC) in the Philippines. RBYC is a school-based knowledge and skills program for middle school students to prevent problem sexual behavior with younger children and peers. To prevent child sexual abuse worldwide we need programs that can scale, and we need to work directly with children. School-based programs offer huge potential, and we can't wait to get going. APLE Cambodia, INHOPE’s member hotline of the month for November, has operated since 2015 to stop the dissemination of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in Cambodia. The hotline is an essential resource for the Cambodian public to report and remove harmful content from the internet. But, they acknowledge that prevention is always the best action. For this reason, APLE collaborates with the government to put in place educational programs that equip children, parents, carers, educators and the wider community with the knowledge and tools to prevent sexual abuse. They actively support age-appropriate online safety education in schools and work closely with victims to improve prevention, support and response. In addition, APLE supports national and regional action plans that tackle this issue at the core, aimed at reducing the demand for child exploitation. Their commitment is to create a safer, more supportive environment for all children and adolescents. As we grow more connected through the internet, forming relationships online has become increasingly common. Unfortunately, this connectivity also provides groomers with an opportunity to carry out their bad intentions more easily. 🚨 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴? It refers to building a trusting relationship with minors with the intention of exploiting them, especially for non-consensual sexual activities (Merriam-Webster). Groomers prey on the innocence of children, using false friendships to manipulate them into dangerous situations. Thus, children should become empowered to recognize the signs, be vigilant, and speak up when someone makes them uncomfortable or pressures them into doing things against their will. As part of the ChildFund Alliance, we are dedicated to creating a safer digital world for children through our Web Safe & Wise campaign. Spread the word and help us in our mission to combat Online Sexual Abuse & Exploitation of Children (#OSAEC) and create a safer online environment. Let's be #WEBSafeAndWise! 💚 --- For OSAEC and other child-related concerns, you may contact Makabata Helpline 1383. #WEBSafeAndWiseWednesday #ChildProtection #OnlineSafety #ChildFundJapan

Trigger Warning: Abuse Everyone is exposed to the internet; this even includes children. While it can offer benefits, it can also cause harm and be used as a playground for abuse and exploitation. A study by the United States National Center for Missing and Exploited Children saw a 260% increase in 2020 in terms of sexual exploitation of children online (SaferKidsPH). Due to this incidence, the country became a hotspot in OSAEC, or Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children, wherein 80% of Filipino children are vulnerable to sexual abuse and exploitation (Mission Alliance Philippines 2020). With this, the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) RA 11930 and the Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM) Act were implemented to protect the welfare of children, the overall well-being of a child, and for them to be digitally safe and protected from abuse and exploitation (Jur.Ph). Here, in Virlanie we continue to advocate for the safety of children, both online and offline. We hope that each of us will play a part in preventing online sexual abuse and exploitation of children. #OSAEC #ChildAdvocacy #VirlanieFoundation

One more sneak peak to our project 2KNOW preliminary findings before the Christmas break 👉 📢 New findings on adverse childhood experiences (#ACEs) of anonymous child sexual abuse material (#CSAM) users in the #darkweb. Preliminary data from the #EUfunded Project #2KNOW led by @Suojellaan Lapsia ry - Protect Children in collaboration with @Council of Baltic Sea States & @University of Eastern Finland reveal: 💡 41% of CSAM users were subject to very frequent emotional abuse in childhood. 💡 34-37% of CSAM users were subject to very frequent physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional neglect, and physical neglect in childhood. 👉 In the survey, questions about ACEs have the lowest response rate signifying that CSAM users are not comfortable discussing their own experiences of adversity. World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Violence: Our Collective Responsibility to Protect Children On World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Violence, we at the School of International Cooperation, Security and Strategic Languages (SICSSL) stand united in our commitment to protecting children from all forms of sexual exploitation, abuse, and violence. Children have the right to a safe and secure childhood, free from harm. Yet, millions of children around the world are subjected to sexual abuse, exploitation, and violence each year. This is a global crisis that demands our urgent attention and action. As a leading institution in international cooperation and security, we recognize that preventing and healing from child sexual abuse, exploitation, and violence requires a multi-faceted approach. We must work together to: Raise awareness and understanding of the issue Empower children to protect themselves Implement effective prevention strategies Provide support and healing to survivors We believe that education is a powerful tool in preventing child sexual abuse, exploitation, and violence. By teaching children about their rights, body boundaries, and safe behaviors, we can help them to protect themselves from harm. We also call for increased support for survivors of child sexual abuse, exploitation, and violence. Survivors need access to trauma-informed care, mental health support, and legal assistance. Together, we can create a world where all children are safe and free from harm. #WorldDayAgainstCSEAV #ProtectingChildren #SICSSL

Today is Human Trafficking Awareness Day in Canada. Twenty-Five Percent of human trafficking victims in Canada are under 18 years old, with children being groomed at an average age of 13 to 14 years old. Over the past five years, reports of online sexual luring of children have increased by 815% (cybertip.ca). To prevent human trafficking, we need to understand it. But we also need to be able to talk to our kids about it. We want to enable you to do this. On March 4th, we’re launching The Prevention Project. We have created age-appropriate resources: a series of easy-to-watch videos for grades 3 all the way to 12; covering challenging topics like sexual exploitation, luring and trafficking in a way that is lighthearted but honest and easy to grasp. All of the content will be completely free to access and easy to navigate from any device. We look forward to sharing these resources with you in just a couple short weeks. Can you help us spread the word?

International Missing Children’s Day, observed globally on the 25th of May each year, is dedicated to drawing attention to the thousands of children who go missing worldwide annually. Globally, it is estimated that over one million young people are reported missing each year. In Australia alone, thousands of children are reported missing to law enforcement each year. Most are found safe within 24 hours, but unfortunately, some are not. Today aims to highlight the efforts made to find and reunite children with their families, promote measures to protect children from abduction and exploitation and honour those who have been recovered. It serves as a unified effort to raise awareness, share knowledge, and advocate for the safety and well-being of all children. As children's use of social media rapidly increases, so do the opportunities for perpetrators to connect, engage with, and groom them. We must remain vigilant, as online technology can be used to facilitate child sexual exploitation (CSE). By collaborating with and advocating alongside those fighting CSE, we can make significant progress keeping children safe.
