According to the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), U.S. drivers killed 3,373 pedestrians in the first half of 2023 alone. Placing highly visible crosswalk signs is a step in the right direction to ensure that our streets are safe and accessible for pedestrians of all ages and abilities. Today, medics are increasingly becoming a crucial part of tactical teams, with the need to be trained and protected in the line of fire. In a new blog post, various agencies describe how they have found a need to have these life-saving professionals integrated into the their tactical teams. “'Probably one of the (incidents) that jumps into my mind, not a significant injury, but it showed to me the value of having immediate medical care … I was assigned to deputies on the backside of a building that were breaching an upper door off of like almost like a deck, and the deputy that was breaching, … he followed through with the ram and ended up hitting his hand on the door frame and busted open his hand and started bleeding… For a brief second, he’s out of the fight. He’s bleeding. He’s injured. I was able to pull him aside, wrap his hand quickly and send him back in to finish the mission. For most passers-by, the scene of a serious road collision is a sad sight, quickly forgotten after driving past the flashing lights of emergency services. But for the Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU), the scene can be the beginning of a months-long process to investigate the cause of the accident and provide a degree of closure to victims of road trauma. The specialised unit of 48 detectives investigates serious collisions, such as fatalities and those involving criminal negligence by a surviving driver. The unit acts as the primary police contact point for families throughout investigations and ensures they are well supported and informed. This can include important referrals to support services and resources, but according to Detective Leading Senior Constable Kelly Carvill, the most powerful support provided often isn’t bound by formalities. It’s a unit nobody wants to be busy. For those that want to know FASTER Colorado, as a program, exists for a reason. The safety of school aged children in the one place (other than at home) they should all feel safe Some states and cities are currently defunding and removing the few armed school resource officers that they DO currently have. Why? School resource officers aren’t the problem A few Colorado politicians in Denver want armed staff & their guns out of schools. Why? Armed trained school staffers aren’t the problem Why would anyone want to make children LESS safe? Why? How many school shooting have happened AT schools that have SROs and armed staffers? ZERO So what exactly do armed School Resource Officers and armed staff provide? Nothing? They provide DETERRENCE And “there is a very big deterrent effect. Most armed schools have removed their “gun free zone” signs Many have replaced those signs with signs indicating there are armed staff on campus Some even have large signs very prominently displayed in the parking lot of each building While the trend of school shootings overall is up slightly, the trend in schools with concealed carry armed employees is flat —at zero.” ZERO What does THAT mean? It means that deterrence works and, for some reason, some people DON’T like THAT Why?

Safe System Snippet - Police Vehicle Crashes A MUARC study from NSW shows that 55.2% of emergency vehicle collisions involve police cars, compared to 10.9% for ambulances and 4.8% for fire brigade vehicles. Police duties often involve unpredictable high-speed manoeuvres, placing drivers at unique risk.
