Did you know there are 2 ways to indicate you are Open to Work? 1) By using the green “open to work” banner on your profile pic. This alerts the entire LinkedIn network of your job search. 2) The other, more discreet way, is to flag it for recruiters only, bypassing the green banner. Only recruiters conducting talent searches can see your status. Why do recruiters encourage you to use the green banner if they can see your status without it? Because only recruiters using the optional LinkedIn Recruiter tool can see option #2. Many, many recruiters do not use LI Recruiter. They will not be able to see your active job search unless you display the green banner. I’ve encountered some confusion around this and wanted to clear it up. Bottom line, if you want to ensure ALL recruiters can see that you’re actively pursuing a new job, the green “open to work” banner is the way to accomplish this. #jobsearch #recruiting #opentowork

But the two recruiters quoted in this article take it to a whole new level of mean-spiritedness. One likens it to begging on a street corner, and the other says it looks too needy. I have news for them. It's common for human beings who've been displaced to NEED a job. They're asking for a chance-- not a handout -- but a chance to do work they're qualified to do. If you're advertising a position, then you have a need. I suppose, then, that no one should want to work for you. If you only hire perfect candidates without needs, I imagine they're quite limited in number. Have you no empathy or humanity?

Important Update for Job Seekers! Did you know that you don’t have to stress about displaying the ‘Open to Work’ banner on your LinkedIn profile to be noticed by recruiters? Whether you choose to use the green frame or prefer to keep your search private, recruiters can still find you through ‘spotlight’ searches dedicated to finding active talent. Here’s a graphic that explains how this works, and what I see as a recruiter. It’s entirely your choice to use the banner or not. For some, it’s a great way to network and openly show readiness to explore new opportunities. For others, privacy or current employment scenarios might lead to a more discreet approach. Both are perfectly okay! The most important thing? Do what feels right for you and your family! There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to job searching, and you won’t be overlooked by recruiters either way. I recently discovered this feature on LinkedIn ⬇️ On a company's page under their "About" section, there's a feature that allows you to submit your profile to that companys recruiting team, if company has chosen to allow this feature - and not all do. That way you can not only follow the company, you can also signal to the TA team that you're open to discussions about potential jobs if you don't immediately see one that interests you. ❓️Question❓️ For all the recruiters out there, what is your experience like on the other side of this? - Is it a tool you find helpful in selecting a talent pool? - Does this move candidates up higher on your searches if a candidate lands under your search criteria and has selected this interest? Day 3/5 - LinkedIn’s Open To Work Feature   You’ve switched it on, you’ve filled out the information, you’re now waiting to hear from eager recruiters.   Within LinkedIn Recruiter, hiring companies are now able to ‘sort’ candidates. Here are 2 of the main ways recruiters will sort you by:   1.    RECENCY - This means they can sort by new candidates, screening out people who have had this Open to Work feature on for some time. What does this mean for you – well if you've had this featured switched on for more than a month - switch it off, then the next day switch it back on to 'refresh' your ranking. And do this regularly.   2.    PROFILE EDITS - Recruiters can also search by when you last made changes to your profile. This means you need to be tweaking your profile regularly as you will potentially show up higher in the ranking than someone whose profile is stale and looks inactive to a recruiter. Respond to inmails, update your profile- “active talent” “Interested in your company”- following your company page — follow companies you are interested in! Be engaged.
