What do F1 and Payments have in common?   A need for speed? Two things that I have a keen interest in?   Sure, that's important but what else?   FXC Intelligence's recent blog on payment sponsorships unpacks this in more detail and why the sport has become a key marketing channel for payment companies.   Today 40% of the grid has a payments-related company among its title or tier 1 sponsors, while every team (including the F1 organisation itself) has a sponsorship deal with a payments company in one way or another.   The article (link in comments) makes for fascinating reading and has certainly given me a new perspective on these partnerships ahead of the new F1 season.   #payments #F1

Normally when the world of sport meets the world of insolvency and winding up petitions it involves a football club and HM Revenue and Customs. However rugby league made the headlines recently as Championship side Featherstone Rovers were issued a winding up petition by Investec Asset Finance plc. The value of the debt is unknown at this stage. A winding up petition being received is not something that should be taken lightly. It will set a date for a petition hearing and at this hearing the Court could make an order for the club to be placed into compulsory liquidation. Such action will carry potentially terminal consequences for the club. The good news is that the chief executive of Featherstone Rovers says discussions with Investec are ongoing and it is expected to be resolved shortly. If this is the case it is likely the petition would be dismissed at the hearing if not withdrawn sooner. Featherstone Rovers spent big chasing promotion to the Super League last year, narrowly missing out to the London Broncos. Whilst the petition received last month is not inextricably linked to chasing top flight Rugby League, it is a story that is all too familiar for sports fans of clubs spending excessively chasing promotion only to fall short and been left with a raft of financial issues. #insolvency #businessrecovery #restructuring #turnaround #business #sport #rugbyleague #featherstonerovers #superleague #accountant #london
