This is my Stanley hammer. Not to be confused with the Stanley cup you just drank from, or the Stanley Cup the Florida Panthers drank from last night. As I mentioned last week, there are a number of live trademark registrations for “Stanley”, owned by different entities for unrelated things. The Stanley below is used in conjunction with tools, and there is the Stanley we discussed last week for use with insulated drinkware. There is a Stanley mark registered by Stanley Electric, a Japanese company that manufactures lighting. There is a Stanley mark for the Stanley museum, which showcases Stanley family history, including the Stanley Steam car. Some of these marks are stylized versions of the word, some are just the word themselves. It all stems from the core issue of trademark use, which is to distinguish the source of goods and services. If one’s use of “Stanley” for a completely different good is not likely to cause confusion as to who made or sold the good in question, then the possibility of registration increases. Know any other “Stanleys” out there? #trademarks #patentlawyer #patentattorney #branding ------------------------------------------ **Follow me for more interesting examples & useful tips regarding IP. **Got an idea you don't know what to do with? Superdry Tackles Manchester City Over Super 'Dry' Kit TM Superdry PLC has handed top English soccer club Manchester City Football Club a yellow card for trademark infringement, suing its owner over its Asahi Beverages-sponsored kit bearing the Super "Dry" tagline used by the Japanese brewer. The differences between Super 'Dry' and Superdry are so insignificant that they may go unnoticed by the average consumer," the retailer told the court. The Japanese brewer has registered several trademarks for its Super "Dry" brand, but the protections are primarily for beer. Superdry conceded that the kits have other distinctive features, such as the Manchester City badge and the logo of Puma, the maker of its jerseys. But it argued that the "Super 'Dry' Asahi 0.0%" line is the central, most dominant element of the training kit. It also told the court that the word "Asahi" might not always be visible since it depends on the angle and posture of the player wearing the kit. City Football Group Ltd. owns and operates the club. The Abu Dhabi United Group has an 81% stake in the holding company, 18% is held by American business Silver Lake, and 1% by Chinese firms China Media Capital and CITIC Capital Read more at Law360 UK #mancestercity #epl #trademark #infringement

★ This is Jim Thorpe. Look closely at the photo, you can see that he's wearing different socks and shoes. This wasn't a fashion statement. It was the 1912 Olympics, and Jim represented the U.S. in track and field. On the morning of his competition, his shoes were stolen. Luckily, Jim ended up finding two shoes in a garbage can. That's the pair that he's wearing in the photo. But one of the shoes was too big, so he had to wear an extra sock. Wearing these shoes, Jim won two gold medals that day. 💬 Jim's story is a powerful example of how determination and resourcefulness can help us overcome obstacles in pursuit of our goals. Despite the theft of his shoes, he didn't let that stop him from competing and winning gold medals. Instead, he found a creative solution and made the best of a difficult situation. This story can serve as a reminder to all of us that excuses can hold us back from achieving our dreams. When we focus on the obstacles in our way, it's easy to lose sight of the prize and become discouraged. However, when we choose to focus on the prize and find ways to overcome the challenges in our way, we can achieve great things. So, let's take a page from Jim's book and stop making excuses. Instead, let's focus on the trophy and do what it takes to win. Remember, where there's a will, there's a way.

Responsible business or just simple profiteering? As the run up to UEFA EURO 2024 the BBC News have just announced that if parents or guardians buy counterfeit shirts they will be supporting criminal gangs and child exploitation. When will BIG corporates who claim to be responsible businesses STOP simple profiteering when they are promoting an inclusive sport? Nike researchers claim they will lose £2.8billion in lost revenue to counterfeiters. That's £2.8bn going to fuel future criminal activity on our streets. STOP putting the onus on struggling parents to act responsibly and demonstrate responsible leadership by reducing your profit margins. Who knows it may create volume sales, more income to the government to combat criminality and a legacy we can all be proud of, regardless of how England-Scotland perform. #SharedValueCreation

Genius...if you can stand the restricted oxygen while competing, especially for amateurs with name image likeness opportunities, it's near impossible to "sell" your face however masks are a low cost of participation for consumers, catch the right wave and it could turn into some real fuel to build sales, brand etc. Please no matter what though shall we never accept or allow masks to be worn in banks as a norm or rule. Mid COVID the extreme lack of logic regarding masking and it's deficiencies were embarrassing V3rd- https://lnkd.in/d--fBKjG
