They also tied deeply rooted values to their brand identities in a seamless yet resonant way. And there was some humor in there too :) They leaned into raw human experiences, tapping into vulnerability and familiarity in order to capture connection and emotion. Of course everyone thinks they know advertising, branding and marketing and even the legendary advertising genius Jeff Goodby has been challenged by clueless clients. In “Art & Copy,” he related the story of the pitch to the California milk board for “got milk?” to remind consumers to keep it stocked in case of chocolate cake etc. The client said, Ok, but it’s poor English, let’s change it to “Do you have milk?” Oy. If clients and bosses would listen to real (not social media) advertising & marketing professionals who’ve designed and executed national and international campaigns, they might learn something.
