📣 The Makers of the SPAM® Brand Sending Resources to Aid Maui Wildfire Response Hormel Foods and its SPAM® brand have donated 264,000 cans of SPAM® to support the disaster-relief efforts on Maui in response to the devastating wildfires. In all, the SPAM® brand has donated cash and product with a retail value of more than $1,000,000 to directly help those impacted by the wildfires. The SPAM® brand has also created a specially designed “SPAM® Brand Loves Maui” T-shirt, with 100% of proceeds going to the Aloha United Way’s Maui Fire Relief Fund. Hormel Foods has a long history of supporting disaster relief efforts, and this donation is just one way the company is showing its support for the people of Maui. Convoy of Hope, a nonprofit organization that is on the ground in Hawaii, is distributing the SPAM® products to those in need. Sweet tooth, Guy?! 🍭🍬🍫 • Ocean rowing, like many endurance challenges, can often be thought of as an eating exercise, with some rowing thrown in! 😯 • Between the four of them, this team will probably consume a little over 20,000 kcal a day - currently they are on course for a 54 day crossing - which means in this row they will consume over a MILLION kcal! 🤯 • Most of this will be in the form of dehydrated meals. These are simply fully cooked recipes, like spaghetti bolognaise, chicken tikka, beef stew, etc, but with all the moisture removed. They can then rehydrate these with filtered sea water. Having them in dehydrated form means they last, they're lightweight, and they take up less space. • Only eating these high calorie meals can be challenging for the stomach when you're trying to consume about 5000 kcal a day each, so a large portion of their intake is in the form of sweets! These words stopped us in our tracks during our food pantry distribution this morning. It's never easy to watch the line grow around our block each Wednesday as our neighbors in need line up hours and hours early to get food. It's never easy to watch senior citizens trying to plow through snowbanks or heat waves in their wheelchairs in order to get in line for food. It isn't easy to see the need at all, let alone hear these words from the mouth of someone who should be getting ready to retire instead of coming to us for food to eat. It's all never easy, but sadly, it just keeps getting worse. The need here in Marinette and Menominee Counties is staggering. We are about to surpass 500,000 pounds of food distributed so far in 2023. That's nearly twice 2022, which was our busiest year on record. The scariest part is that we are heading into the holiday season, our busiest time of the year. If you can, please consider making a recurring monthly donation.
