The crucial Tests in Transmission Networks 1) Latency Important test specially in real time application links, used to measure latency in milliseconds. 2) Throughput This test measures the amount of data rates and the measured capacity. 3) Loopback It is a general test, can be performed in MW, optical, network devices used to detect the faulty segment and to make troubleshooting. 4) Interference Important test in MW links to ensure the Interference on the received signal is within the limit. We perform this test by shutting down the Far-End and monitoring the Rx level on Near-End. 5) Protection This test aims to ensure the backup link will smoothly and automatically switch in case of any failure happening with the main link. Protection tests mainly performed with 1+1 links. 6) XPD It is called cross polarization discrimination. It aims to detect the interference Level between vertical and horizontal in XPIC links. XPI value determines the MW system performance and we need to achieve a high value (25-30 or higher). 7) Bit Error It is a very important test, a general test that can be run on any digital system. The purpose is to detect the level of errors in the data link.

An ASON network consists of three planes: control plane, management plane and transmission plane. The core software running on the control plane is GMPLS (Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching). ASON It mainly includes LMP (Link Management Protocol), OSPF-TE (Open Shortest Path First-Traffic Engineering) and RSVP-TE (Resource Reservation Protocol-Traffic Engineering) protocols. It is responsible for the call connection on the control plane and implements dynamic control on the transport plane through signaling exchange, such as establishing or releasing connections, monitoring and maintenance and providing protection and recovery in case of connection failures.

Types of loops in optical networks - loopback is one of the most common fault locating methods - types of loop mechanism: 1- software loop 2- hardware loop - the software loop performed remotely from NMS like NCE in Huawei or NFM -T in Nokia - no need to visit site, we can simply set it from NMS - hardware loop need site visit because we have to connect fiber cable physically from input to output ports - note : when performing hardware loop you should connect attenuator to prevent the received optical module from damage due to high power - another note : loop may interrupt service on the line so you should consider the impact - mainly we have 2 types of loops : 1- inloop 2- outloop - inloop used to check the local board service processing , whether the board is okay or not - outloop used to check / test the optical line and connectors - we have 2 sides of loop : 1- client side 2- WDM side ( called line side too )
