Congratulations to Joy Sivilay on celebrating her 5-year anniversary with Hungerford Properties! Joy is a highly valued member of the team who demonstrates outstanding dedication, professionalism, and proficiency in her role as Development Accounts Coordinator. Joy is dependable, accountable and manages multiple tasks and deadlines with ease. Her positive attitude and ability to build trusting and engaging relationships across the organization is so appreciated and has a big impact on our collaborative team culture. Joy exemplifies the Hungerford values on a daily basis, and we thank her for all her contributions over the last 5 years. Q: What is your favourite part of your job? A: I love the people I work with and the enormous amount of autonomy I’m granted. I know my boss has my back 100% which allows me to do my job with confidence. I work with a group of talented, caring and supportive individuals, who come from all walks of life and have varying degrees of experience - I have learned so much from all of them. Q: What is your favourite thing to do on the weekends? A: SLEEP!!! I’m kind of joking. If the weather is bad, I love to curl up on the couch and binge watch my favorite TV shows/movie series and/or read a good book. If the weather is nice and the sun is out, I need to be outside. I’m either hiking, camping, playing beach volleyball/softball or just straight up suntanning. Q: What career advice would you give to your younger self? A: Try to work and surround yourself with people whose values align with your own. Gain as much experience and absorb as much information as you can from every job. Street knowledge is just as important as book knowledge and can’t be taught in a classroom – it only comes with experience. Also, success isn’t just measured by a salary and a title; it’s measured by who you are as a person and how you treat others. Never forget who you are, where you came from and the strength it took to get where you’re at. Q: What is a recent book or movie you would recommend? A: Everything Everywhere All at Once – it’s not recently released but it’s a movie that I would highly recommend. It’s weird, funny, action packed, emotionally charged; it’s a beautifully written/acted story about love and family. #MeettheTeam #HungerfordProperties

We enjoyed having Barbara Corcoran as a speaker yesterday at NAIOP in Seattle. Loved how she dived in about people having “victim” mentality: "The difference between successful people and others is how long they spend time feeling sorry for themselves," Corcoran says. "When they take a hit, they don't take long to get back up." Here are her 7 life lessons: 1. Perception creates reality 2. Only two kinds of people at work: expanders & containers 3. Hire happy people (can’t train someone to have positive attitude, negative people will bring the rest down and create unhealthy work environment) 4. Fun is good for business 5. Recognition motivated more than money 6. I am great at failure (many lessons are learned during failures, bounce back and move on, try different angles until something sticks) 7. Bad times are the best times to move ahead (the weak do not survive during downturns/recession) She did find the two mins to talk trash about Mr. Wonderful (my favorite shark) 😂 I love their relationship and her sense of humor. There are many great takeaways from her speech, she crushed it! Think about it, every job requires training, no matter the level of the position. With that in mind, our On-the-Job Training program provides employers an opportunity to recruit, hire, and retain quality talent who may have a barrier that has impacted employability for some job seekers. This can include individuals who are collecting unemployment compensation, long-term unemployed, homeless, persons with disabilities, low-income, criminal background, or youth/young adults aged 18-24. Funding is always a limitation, however, the power of employment connections that make a difference is limitless.
