What better way to start the week than on the golf course...and it's even better if you are supporting a worthy cause! Yesterday, J. Scott Kittrell, and team did just that at the HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF THE NC SANDHILLS, INC. "Drive it Home!" Golf Tournament and Fundraiser organized by the Habitat's Women Build group. It's always our pleasure to support Habitat for Humanity and their amazing contributions to the communities where we live and work. #givewhereyoulive #southernpinesfinancialplanner

We operate as a trust-based philanthropy… but what does that mean? Trust-based philanthropy is an approach that actively seeks to rebalance power and decision-making among communities, nonprofits, and donors. Historically, foundations have operated through a top-down approach, but this needs to change. At JBRF, those with lived experience understand their needs best and can design equitable solutions to catalyze change. Our role is to assist in, rather than direct, the discovery of those solutions and to support and encourage partners to turn those intentions into outcomes. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gZjgQxfJ #philanthropy #racialequity #communityfirst #EotR #Ward7 #Ward8

What’s one of the greatest barriers Tribes have to receiving philanthropic dollars? Match funds 💰 As part of our Philanthropy 101 series, we defined match funds as a grant that will only be awarded if the applicant agrees to pay—or “match”—a certain percentage of the grant itself. In other words: You need money to receive money. Tribal communities don’t always have the means to pay the match. As a result, the very populations philanthropy seeks to help are denied the game-changing support needed to implement life-changing projects, such as creating sustainable infrastructure and addressing environmental injustices. Fortunately, there is a straightforward solution: Make match funds available to the communities that can’t afford them. Read The Chronicle of Philanthropy’s article, “A Hidden Burden on Low-Income Communities That Philanthropy Can Help Fix” to learn more about match funding barriers, as well as ways that Native Americans in Philanthropy is working to resolve this systemic inequity ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eSsMvnDM #Philanthropy #NativePhilanthropy #Nonprofit #NativeNonprofit #MatchFunds #Funding #NativeAmerican #Native #Indigenous #WeAreIndigenous #NativeLed #Grants #MatchFunding #Equity

PCT update! 🥾 Riordan just passed 700 miles and has entered the Sierra Nevada! This week, he’s reflecting on activism and action during his time on the trail. Read on for some of his experience, and head to this page to learn more and donate: https://lnkd.in/gmk6jnZf “One of the beautiful things about Activism is that there isn't much of a rule book. Sure, there are strategies that might be more effective than others. But, what it really comes down to is one's genuine desire to make a positive impact. By combining this genuine desire with one of your passions, you are effectively joining together different communities in an organic way. As they grow, so does the opportunity for fundraising, idea sharing, and the potential to make a meaningful difference. Whatever your mission might be, it's important to take the leap and start sharing your story with others. You might be surprised by who is willing to listen! “ #SierraNevadaAlliance #SierraNevada #SavetheSierra #Sierra #Conservation #Stewardship #Community #Environment #Activism #ClimateAction #ClimateJustice #ClimateChange #Adventure #PacificCrestTrail #AlchemyLab #ProjectPCT Riordan Cicciu

On Tuesday, Oct. 17th, Dr. Marguerite "Margo" McClinton Stoglin will talk to us about the 2023 Bank of America Study of Philanthropy. This study focused on affluent households with an annual income of more than $200,000 and/or net worth of more than $1 million. The discussion will include the impact Covid-19 still had on philanthropy in 2022, as well as the philanthropic motivations, priorities and strategies of affluent donors during a challenging year. Last week we celebrated the one-year anniversary of the Community Bill of Rights. This week, we're highlighting insights from the co-authors featured in our latest article, Why Philanthropy Needs a Community Bill of Rights. Here's Shemekka Stewart-Isaacs' message to funders: "The Community Bill of Rights creates the opportunity for more meaningful relationships between communities and funders. That takes time and resources, which I know philanthropic organizations understand the importance of. This is a tool to better facilitate those relationships that center community." What types of relationships would you like to see between funders and community members? #Community #CenteringCommunity #CommunityBillOfRights #SocialJustice #CommunityEngagement
