Does Elon Musk pose the most significant barrier to advertising on X? Planning Director at VCCP, 🍣 Rob E. was interviewed by Campaign Asia-Pacific on why advertisers have left Twitter. Following Musk’s acquisition of the platform, Twitter has witnessed a significant decrease of advertisers, resulting in a substantial loss of advertising revenue for the platform. Rob highlights that: “One thing that he (Musk) seems to be forgetting is that advertisers are not only questioning if Twitter/X is a brand safe environment, they are doing it in the context of needing to cut budgets and going to do what has delivered before”. “Leave conversations”, “mute”, ignore and/or use “reporting”…, when did it become so hard to do these? It’s social media, not real life. You can’t block users who harass you on FB comments, and blocking is useless on Instagram when dealing with spammers. We whine about how Mark ignore marketers and keep doing his thing while we do memes on how sick we are of Business Suite. The most important assets a brand owns are their website and their contact lists. Focus on that a bit more. No brand or user “owns” their social media accounts. We’re subject to these changes when they happen. We sign terms when we open these accounts. They own the platforms, weather we agree with it or not. Let’s be real here. Yep, I’m a marketer who’s not always a follower of the herd. #socialemediamarketing #socialmedia #socialmediamanagement

Elon Musk just casually announcing in the replies that he intends to delete blocking as a feature is...concerning, to say the least. #SocialMediaManager #Twitter

Musk plans to charge all Twitter users a monthly fee. How do you think this will turn out? It seems like a simple question to me but I've seen a lot of people support most if not all of Elon's actions with Twitter that I think are clearly wrong. I'm curious if they also think this is a brilliant move? Here's my take: Elon's plan to charge Twitter users a monthly fee could dramatically plummet user growth and prompt a mass exodus. Twitter's value stems from open access - putting content behind a paywall risks losing casual users that give it reach. While subscriptions could reduce spam and improve revenue in the short term, the impact on Twitter's identity as a public forum could be devastating. The key will be balancing monetization and maintaining broad, free access.

📢 Free Advice: If you’re advertising on X, you’re wasting money. The platform is so overly saturated with bots that you’ll throw money away. 🚫💸 Having amassed 15 years of marketing experience, I've yet to encounter a platform in such a dire state as X. The smartest advertisers left when Elon Musk told them to go elsewhere, but not so politely. While he was proud of that ignorant statement then, he has since come to regret it and is now begging advertisers to return to Twitter: https://lnkd.in/gtntxUTt Just this morning, I saw the N-bomb dropped several times, and all Elon does is hide it behind a button. This is not a place you want your brand to be associated with. Do yourself a favor and avoid advertising on X. #DigitalMarketing #SocialMediaMarketing #AdvertisingTips #MarketingStrategy #BrandStrategy
