For the past number of years, I've been working hard to focus on the quality of conversations I have. As a mom of younger children who play (a lot of) sports, it's easy to stand on the sidelines and get caught up in that standard conversation about how busy we are, how crazy life is, the time of year, how bad allergies are this year, etc. In reflection, I realized these conversations only added to my feelings of stress, chaos, busyness and overwhelm, both for me and likely the other person. While I'm certainly not perfect (allergies really ARE bad this year!), shifting the intentionality of my conversations (both personally and professionally) to the more productive, interesting and inquisitive have found to be much more enjoyable and fruitful (it's amazing what cool things you can learn about humans when you ask!). In this great (and quick) read, Marshall Goldsmith shares four powerful questions that can reshape the way our leaders have conversations with us and with each other for more positive and impactful results. A powerful shift to ensure your teams aren't caught in the “what's wrong or bad loop” and instead focused on how we move forward from here. #bluewaterleadership #bluewateradvisory #bluewaterEQ #chiefexecutivegroup

You are going to be spending a lot of time with people from different disciplines throughout your career. If you want to find consistent success at work — learn to form meaningful partnerships of change and impact. This means listening to what people care about. Genuinely. Learning what gives them confidence. And what takes it away. Use that knowledge wisely. And kindly. Invest in relationships that matter. People who want similar things. Shared core team values. Clarity on the operating philosophy. Alignment on the team’s future aspirations. A clear focus on sustainability and longevity. A commitment to excellence. Consistent encouragement to push boundaries and take calculated risks. To champion collective success over individual (or functional) brilliance. An openness to co-coaching and team empowerment. And good injections of hope, optimism, fun and playfulness. If you’re able to manifest these things and find repeated success, you will have found collaborators for life.
