I have 2 things for you to ponder: 1 - Last week I was helping welcome people to the Food Pantry for our Wednesday late afternoon/evening hours. In line were people who work in our community, coming after work to shop. I know this because they had uniforms and nametags from area businesses. Some had their kids with them, tired from a long day at school and/or day care. And everyone one of them depend on what is on these shelves to feed their families. 2 - Some of you might remember the panic you felt when you went to the grocery store early in the pandemic and found the thing that you needed unavailable. If you had to shop the food pantry and it was your only option because you were too short on cash from paying rent and all other life expenses to buy food and you got there and there wasn't much on the shelves - can you imagine the fear and panic? The good news is - that as a community - we can actually make it different. We can't change the dynamics that are causing people to need the pantry. (I don't have any tricks in my back pocket to change the economy, to change the housing shortage, to change the cost of day care or someone's income). But we can donate money to a food pantry or buy food to donate and fill shelves. That is in our collective power. I challenge you to to think of a way to make a difference today, and next week and the following week. Even if it's small, it will matter to someone. I know you all and you are a creative caring bunch. If you are looking for ideas or have ideas, your links are below <3
This is a photo of our pantry shelves at the end of a typical day. For over 40 years, we have provided food for people in our community without ever turning anyone away who met our eligibility requirements. For the first time in our history, we can no longer meet the need with our current resources. We have placed limits on how much food people can take, but we are still running out of food every week.We need your help to bridge the gap! As we wrap up National Volunteer Week (April 21 – 27), it's important to recognize all the individuals who help charities through their generous donations of time. It's estimated that 60+ million people volunteer more than 4 billion hours annually. While many are motivated to volunteer, we sometimes hit roadblocks or challenges to achieve this objective. Among them is finding the “extra” time to donate. Overcome this and other barriers by considering the following tips when making a volunteer choice: https://bit.ly/3Wo1asO #community #BBB

Our Idea Of Christmas, Whether Old-Fashioned or Modern, Is Very Simple: Loving Others
Today Total Resources made its annual trip to donate Christmas presents to a local charity. Our very own Santa (Tom) and his helpers were all busy this morning getting all the presents under the Total Christmas tree ready for delivery to our chosen charity for 2023 Hebburn helps. This is a crisis response and food bank voluntary community organisation helping local families who are struggling to make ends meet, especially at this time of year. Thanks to our lovely employees who have kindly donated stacks of toys and presents to help a child to have a present to open on Christmas day.

We love the #Dinesmart initiative. So simple. So effective. You know something works when the people it’s aimed at give more than you asked for. An easily managed $2 per bill is often viewed as ‘not enough’ by diners, who proceed to make it $10 or $20 or $50 instead. That’s what we call “smart” comms. No demands. No awkwardness. Just plant a seed-idea and allow the results to blossom. All venues should be on board.
Guess what? Today's the day! #DineSmart is back for its 21st edition, and let me tell you, it's going to be epic! For the whole month, more than 60 incredible restaurants in Melbourne, Sydney, and Adelaide will be serving up amazing dishes. And what's even better, these restaurants are also making a positive impact by raising funds for local homeless charities. So, let's support them and make a difference together! Check out the participating venues on the #DineSmart website or visit the fabulous articles by Broadsheet Media below: 📍 Sydney - https://lnkd.in/gM7kdCYn 📍 Melbourne - https://lnkd.in/giT-wkUe 📍 Adelaide - Visit 'Soi38'!

Fun, sustainable, and ways to help charities !
